Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 Seems like a big weekend for the D.L. - including some out for the season guys plus key players on contending teams:Tim Wakefield - Sore shoulder (I didn't think that was possible for knuckle ballers)Carl Crawford (TB) - Hand, 15 DayAlthough they actually got Rocco Baldelli backJose Contreras (ChiW): ruptured achilles tendon - out for seasonCarlos Lee (Hous): broken finger - probably out for seasonScott Rolen (Tor): shoulder (what else is new?)Orlando Hudson (Ariz): wrist surgery - out for seasonand he's going to be a FA too
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 This just in. Rolen insists he's able to play and has threatened to punch Tony La Russa if he's removed from the lineup. "I know he's not my manager any more, but I'd use just about any reason to punch that guy.
Guest attgig Guests Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 has castillo cleared waivers? lets ship him to Arizona with a bunch of cash.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Wrong answer! Our team badly needs Castillo back, but the fans/media need a scapegoat.Well, I mean, I'd sure like to replace Castillo with Hdson next season if possible, but it doesn;t change the fact that we need Castillo now every bit as much as AZ needs Castillo.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 Hey I just ripped the above message off without looking up the stats but now I have only to discover Easley and Castillo at very similar points in the season:Castillo 245 AB, 3-26-.261/.365/.331 88 OPS+Easley 243 AB, 5-32-.267/.317/.362 81 OPS+I think the winner here by a slight margin is Castillo, who makes considerably fewer outs and with less XBH power is probably better suited as a starter than a benchie, such as that goes.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2008 Posted August 11, 2008 The lack of power beyond cheap singles is maddening at times, but .365 OBP is perfectly acceptable in the #2 hole. Part of me wonders about whether we could put Castillo at 1 and Jose at 2...
