Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 (edited) ... picked up off waivers.Jouneyman RH-hitting 1st baseman who spent his entire major & minor league career with the Yanx prior to this season.I don't know that he's a guy you'd want to hand over a full-time job to, or what he brings that they don't think everyone's current favorite Val Pascucci doesn't (maybe fielding - Phillips is very good) but he's at least another option in the race to complement and/or replace the rapidly plummeting Carlos Delgado. G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 We're taking him for his knowledge of the MFY playbook and will abandon him Monday after using him for all he was worth...goodness we are evil when our hand is forced.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 Well, having to acivate him and Church puts the Mets in a challenge. Cancel is almost certainly on notice, but who else goes?Looks like the Supremes will soon be handing down a ruling in Tatis v. Nixon.
Guest Vince Coleman Firecracker Guests Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 Exactly how will Andy Phillips help this team? His career OPS+ is 73. His 2008 OPS+ is 8! Meanwhile, Big Val has a .301/.421/.601 line for New Orleans and a .400/.514/.836 against lefties. That's a 1.351 platoon OPS. Why was he signed if the team has no intention of using him?
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 And the Andy Phillips era comes to an end:"Reds: Claimed infielder Andy Phillips off waivers from the New York Mets."
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2008 Author Posted July 3, 2008 It won't be the same without him.
