MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 About a week ago, there was a picture of Aaron Heilman in the Daily News. I just googled it but couldn't find it.In the picture, he was releasing the ball with his palm turned outward. That is usually the result of throwing a screwball or in some cases a sinking fastball. It is physically impossible for that to happen when throwing a curveball or slider. After those pitches, the follow through would have the palm facing the pitcher's glove side. So, I ask - is Heilman tipping his pitches?Later
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 If he's releasing the ball, no. At least not at that point. It's next to impossible to pick up on the pitcher's follow-through while the ball is screaming at you.
RealityChuck Old-Timey Member Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 Yeah. You tip things if it's apparent before he goes into his windup. Once the pitcher starts to actually throw the ball, there's not enough time to process the information.

But in the picture I saw in the Daily News, the palm out was more pronounced. Maybe he's falling into bad habits with his delivery. And that could be the reason for his recent performances.http://search.live.com/images/results.aspx?q=%22Aaron+Heilman%22&go=Search+Images&mkt=en-us&scope=&FORM=LIVSOPLater
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted May 28, 2008 Author Posted May 28, 2008 From today's Daily News:Check out #2 about Aaron Heilmann. The writer seems to hint that others beside me think that Aaron may be tipping his pitches , especially his changeup.http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/2008/05/27/2008-05-27_ten_ways_to_fix_the_mets.htmlLater
