Who is going to record The Amazin' Shea for me?

Ed Charles is guesting.

You know - I would consider watching it but she is just so insufferable.

How she has held her anchor job for - what - 20 years now? is beyond me.

She can't get through one newscast without stumbling through her script (literally, she can't. Watch her one time - you'll see), she has this annoying laugh that she throws at you at just inappropriate times, mispronounces names - important, well-known names! - and I don't think that even Chuck likes her.

My animosity has nothing to do with her killing Jessica Savitch in a jealous rage and making it look like an accident in case you were wondering.

My mom HATES Sue Simmons.

Sue Simmons used to be an anchor in Washington while my mom lived here. When my mom married my dad and moved to New York, guess what? Sue Simmons moves to New York as well. So she's had to put up with her for more than 25 years at least.

I think Sue Simmons was hired back when stations thought it was edgy and cool and demographically advantageous to have someone bi-racial behind the desk.
Not that any of that explains why she's stayed in that job for so long. I don't have any particular against her, she's just one in a long line a plastic local news anchors that makes me not watch local news programs.

We have a morning anchor on NBC10 who is a total idiot. Every time they cut away to Matt Lauer for a Today Show for a live promo, you can tell that Matt can barely tolerate the guy (who, for the record, is white). I keep waiting for the day that Matt totally loses his patience and says something to the guy about how his repartee is neither clever nor witty.

Time has lent Sue Simmons gravitas unimagined a quarter-century ago. Ditzy competition doesn't hurt either.

But never mind that. She's a huge Mets fan.

"She's a huge Mets fan."

Well, Sue Simmons isn't all bad. She does have at least one redeeming quality going for her, Soup.

I know we're supposed to have our favorite flavors and all. But why care who anchors the early news? Their job is to read.

soup: >>>Fine I'll watch her stupid show<<<

Funny bone tickled over here.

Hmm, half hour for Shea. Who's gonna do the five night mini-series about
Yankee stadium for NBC?

Agreed, it would be nice if she could read.

I don't care who anchors. I care about the weather forecasters, which is why I stick with the vapid anchor if it's a station that does real forecasting.

As if who reads the weather makes a difference.

If you're gonna get your news on TV, it may as well be that whole "Naked News" thing.

From GWreck's 'Mets on TV' post:

- Saturday's game -- the final preseason game -- is the "Civil Rights Game." ESPN National telecast, 5:00 PM

-"The Amazing Shea" - Sue Simmons hosts a look at the amazing history of the stadium. Saturday 7:30 PM on WNBC4.

-CW11 has a "2008 Mets: Built to Win" preview at 7:30 PM on Saturday;

Conflicts, Conflicts !!!

"The Amazing Shea" = Predictably superficial
I bet Simmons knocked out the narration in about 5 minutes and the flunkies at the station set up the video to match the sentence.

Some comments added from local (at least part-time) residents Harrelson, Staub, Shamsky, Kranepool, Hernandez & Charles

It's funny how all recollections of 1969, as well as min-reunions, begin with Seaver, Harrelson, Shamsky, Kranepool, Charles, and (formerly) Agee. You get used to it and come to realize that those are the ones that settled in the area --- and Seaver is in town often enough --- and nobody wants to fly out of town anymore (or send tickets to the other players) to do their work.

I enjoyed watching "Amazing Shea" for the footage, but like most 22 minute TV documentaries, it was hackwork, phoned in, made according to formula. I hope somebody (SNY?) does a commemoration of Shea that will give some sense of what the building means to millions of Mets fans.

Anybody burn me a DVD?

Anybody?

I just got back from a weekend trip to Seattle. I taped it (haven't watched yet) and can probably get you a copy -- will look into it.
