Guest AG/DC Guests Posted January 2, 2008 Posted January 2, 2008 The Mets equaled their deadliest year ever in 2007, seeing eight figures pass on to the hereafter, equaling the total from 2004.Of the eight, half were actual players, with three coaches and an exec thrown in. The 2005 deathlist had five players.Amazingly, two 1962 coaches died in the offseason before opening day of 1963.The 2007 NecrologyVern Ruhle, 2003 pitching coach, January 20Bing Devine, 1967 general manager, January 27Roadblock Jones, 1962 starting pitcher and relief pitcher, February 21Clem Labine, 1962 releif pitcher, March 2Vern Hoscheit, 1984-1987 bullpen coach, June 11Bill Robinson, 1984-1989 batting coach, July 30Jack Lamabe, 1967 relief pitcher and starting pitcher, December 21Jim Beauchamp, 1972-1973 first baseman, outfielder, and pinch-hitter, December 25In his short tenure, Bing Devine had time to both deal for Jack Lamabe and deal him away, both trades coming in-season during the rollicking 1967 trade-fest.In a Rodney Dangerfield moment, Jim Beauchamp died on Christmas day, and the most popular lookup the next day at UMDB was Jack Lamabe. I think we should all hit Jim Beauchamp's page and give him a day.

With Lamabe winning on December 26, and Danny Frisella winning on January 1, it represents a full week's worth of dead winners.
Guest AG/DC Guests Posted January 2, 2008 Posted January 2, 2008 Whoah, I missed that. Screw Rodney. Beauchamp rules.
