Jeff Kent, 1 year, $11.5 million, plus $9 million 2008 option for second year (3/06)

Nomar Garciaparra. 2 years, $18.5M (11/06)

Juan Pierre 5 years, $44M (11/06)

Jason Schmidt, 3 years, $47 million (wow, 12/06)

Esteban Loaiza, 1 year and a month, $8.17 million, plus $7.5M 2009 option (waiver claim 8/2007)

Joe Torre: 3 years, $13 million (11/07)

Andruw Jones 2 years, $36.2 million (12/07, making Pierre signing look worse)

He's got one of the best non-playing jobs in baseball.

I actually kinda like the Andruw signing. If he's great, they can try to extend him and if he wants too much, they can let walk for 2010 when he'll be 33. If he still sucks, you only have to deal with him for 2 years and he'll still be better than Pierre.

The Pierre signing was stupid at the time and Colletti made it worse by saying stupid shit like this:

And no one else would've given Nomar that pile of cash (especially as a 1bman) after he fell off the earth second half '06.

Doesn't that make him one of the, like, five highest-paid players in baseball?

As a centerfielder, I really feel like he's been living off his reputation as 20-year-old for years. He's pretty-much average now.

Annually, sure, but he's probably not even in the top 50 for total dollar amount and at his age and given his past production, I think he's a decent bet to rebound. I would've been cool with the Mets giving him that contract to play right.

Kuroda, who turns 33 in February, passed a physical examination on Saturday and will be introduced Sunday at a Dodger Stadium news conference. "Kuroda was arguably the best starting pitcher on the free-agent market and will be a great addition to our staff," Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti said.
