Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2007 Posted July 26, 2007 During today's telecast, a viewer e-mail asked Keith Hernandez who was the toughest closer he ever faced. He didn't give a definitive answer, but while thinking out loud listed four names.Anybody (who wasn't listening) care to guess who the four were?
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted July 26, 2007 Posted July 26, 2007 Just guessing... Tekulve ... Lee Smith ... Al Holland ... Jeff Reardon

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2007 Author Posted July 26, 2007 Nope, not Fingers.Hint: All four pitched for the Atlanta Braves during their careers. One of the four was also a Met.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2007 Posted July 26, 2007 The Met/Brave clue leads me to Greg McMichael. Also, for some reason, Ken Dayley springs to mind.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2007 Author Posted July 26, 2007 Not McMichael (his career started after Keith had retired) and not Dailey. The guy who was a Met and a Brave spent very little time with either team. Four games as a Brave, 20 as a Met.He was an established veteran when Keith was a rookie. The guy who wasn't a Met is someone I don't think of as a closer, but he did lead the American League in saves once.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2007 Author Posted July 26, 2007 Mike Marshall yes, Bill Campbell no.1. Marshall2. Sutter3. Bedrosian4.The remaining guy, who once led the AL in saves, did so as a White Sock.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2007 Author Posted July 26, 2007 That's it! Thank you for playing. Drive home safely!1. Marshall2. Sutter3. Bedrosian4. Forster
