Guest OlerudOwned Guests Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 http://www.kansascity.com/385/story/211348.html]The Royals appeared to ready to trade veteran closer Octavio Dotel to the Atlanta Braves on Monday afternoon for right-handed starter Kyle Davies.Davies hasn't been good, but that still leaves Atlanta with a gaping hole in the rotation.
Guest sharpie Guests Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 Wickman has been pretty bad for the Braves this season, especially lately (an ERA over 6.00 for the past month or so). Dotel would be an improvement if they elect to have him close rather than set up Wickman. Davies seemed to pitch better against the Mets than other teams so I'm glad to see him shipped off to KC.

Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 Teixeira is a great pick up for the Braves. He is a huge upgrade over players the Braves have been penciling in at first base the past few years. He is the kind of player that could be a difference maker down the stretch in a close pennant race.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 He's better than our first baseman.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 Without question, the Braves are now stronger at first base than the Mets.
Guest OlerudOwned Guests Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 Question: Would the Braves have been better off trading their top 3 rated prospects for Teixeira, or keeping them and transitioning either McCann or Saltalamacchia to first base?

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2007 Author Posted July 31, 2007 ]Question: Would the Braves have been better off trading their top 3 rated prospects for Teixeira, or keeping them and transitioning either McCann or Saltalamacchia to first base? The value of Salatalamacchia is that he's a catcher (some claim his 'D' will never be all that good back there, but that's up to debate I suppose). It's tough to make the case that his bat will EVER be as good as what Teixeira is already.Salty was already playing some 1st (although I wonder why not more often) but with catching blocked in Atlanta - they've already signed McCann to a long-term deal - he becomes more valuable as a trading chip than in keeping him.The SS Andrus is one of those prospects that scouts love for his athleticism and potential, but he's still real raw and young and a ways off even under good circumstances. I don't know anything aobut the two minor league pitchers Atlanta gave up. Remember also that they got a LHP they can use now in return.
