The Snooze today says Marlon Anderson will be called up by the Dodgers series this weekend. I suppose this is to upgrade/replace Newhan, who's basically a poor man's Anderson.

The IFSPA reports that AAA outfielder Chip Ambres is on his way, perhaps to take Easley's spot? Easley is dealing with a family death I believe.

I've been wondering about Ambres and, if I recall correctly, suggested promoting him instead of Ledee when Endy went down.

What's the deal on Chip? Is he considered a prospect or a AAA (or AAAA?) player?

Chip Ambres sounds like he should be a fighter pilot, what can we expect from Anderson, maybe being back at Shea will get him going.

Ambres was a Texas high school football sensation, who gave up the gridiron when the Marlins made him a first-rounder way back in 1998. Now he's a 27-year-old on (I think) his fourth organization.

Looks like the Chavez injury is worse than first thought.

Bad news on Endy injury

For the first time, the Mets acknowledged the serious nature of Endy Chavez's hamstring strain. Chavez has been on the DL since June 7 and is not on the verge of returning soon.

"I don't think Endy's that close," manager Willie Randolph said. "I'm just going to say that instead of saying he's going to be back in a week or so. I think he must have damaged his hamstring a lot more than originally thought, obviously, because it's been a while.

"If it's past six weeks, it's not just a strain or a mild pull. It's more severe than that."

Don't get me wrong here -- we're better with him than without him -- but Chavez was hardly part of the solution before getting injured this year.

You'd still have to do something with Easley and I can't see them just dropping him. Bereavement leave is a possibility but that's only worth a few days.

But then again the IFSPA rarely thinks such things through.

Well...

In the last five games he played, (all in June) Endy was only 2 for 17 but in 26 games in May he hit .312, slugged .416, and his OBP was .365. (3 doubles, 1 triple, 1 homer, 7 walks, 10 runs, 2 steals.)

I'd call that a positive contribution.
