Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 In my new Inside Pitch magazine, Patrick Teale ranks the top ten Met pitching prospects by pitch:It seems to be a combination between ability and execution. So a guy with a raw 99 MPH fastball that he can't spot will rank alongside a guy with a 95 that he spots well and another guy with both a two-seam with some sink and a four-seam to come up and in with.So guessing one guy at time maybe, tell me who these cats may be. Remember the whole system is available.Top Ten Fastballs inthe Mets System1) ________________________2) ________________________3) ________________________4) ________________________5) ________________________6) ________________________7) ________________________8) ________________________9) ________________________10) _______________________Top Ten Curveballs inthe Mets System1) ________________________2) ________________________3) ________________________4) ________________________5) ________________________6) ________________________7) ________________________8) ________________________9) ________________________10) ________________________Top Ten Changeups inthe Mets System1) ________________________2) ________________________3) ________________________4) ________________________5) ________________________6) ________________________7) ________________________8) ________________________9) ________________________10) _______________________Top Ten Sliders inthe Mets System1) ________________________2) ________________________3) ________________________4) ________________________5) ________________________6) ________________________7) ________________________8) ________________________9) ________________________10) ________________________

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 We're looking at only prospects. Non-Major Leaguers.
Guest martin Guests Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 they say philip humber has a wicked curve, and i believe deolis guerra has a filthy something, a change possibly. gotta go with pelfrey on the fastball.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 I couldn't name 10 Met pitching prospects at this point.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 Bobby Parnell: Best slider, No. 4 fastball, No. 6 curveball, No. 9 changeup. He also throws the best forkball, best splitter, best eephus, best spitter, best knuckleball and baddest-ass forehand flick.

Guest martin Guests Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 you would have to be a serious maniac to even know the names of more than 3 or 4 more pitching prospects.
Guest cleonjones11 Guests Posted June 13, 2007 Posted June 13, 2007 Michael Devaney curveball and Tobi Stoner fastball
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 Both are there. But I forgoot to bring the issue to work. So this quiz goes on hiatus until later.A note to the wise: this article was clearly filed at least two months ago, as it includes Blake "The Fake" McGinley, who is now out of the system, among the top changer-uppers.

Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 Are there any hitters amongst the Mets prospects?
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 There are. None made the list of best curveballs though.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 Probably not, but hopefully some of them can at least hit one.**Don't mind me, the Mets noffense has me in a rather pissy mood right now.

Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 Shane Hawk hasn't appeared in a pro game for 2+ years.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 Yup. His cuff went, followed by his labrum, I think. This report was clearly filed during the spring, thus the references to Blake the Fake being in the system and Bazooka Joe being a prospect. At that time, Hawk was merely two years in the wilderness, but the short season rosters are out and I haven't seen him on one.If he's got a Mormon mission or something to do, I hope he got it out of the way while he was down.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 Holdzkom is another guy not pitching professionally this year. He was the gigantic dorky looking college drop-out with the wild stuff we drafted last year.Jonathan Niese and his cureveball of awesomeness have gone 6-4, 5.15 at St. Lucie. He's given up a lot of hits/runs but has pretty good indicators (73.1 IP, 4 HR, 19/57 BB/K). He's also a pup @ 20 years old. His teammate Jake Ruckle appears to be using his Top-10-rated changes and sliders for relief.Kevin "Fastball/Slider" Mulvey has given up 1 home run in 92.2 innings at Bingo. That sounds pretty good.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 John, who proudly ignores the advice of this thread title, will be getting a late start on short season ball after a month's vacation from St. Lucie. According to the Daily News, 7-6:Pitcher John Holdzkom, the Mets fourth-round pick in 06, was quietly sent home for a month after severely damaging a hotel room, a team official said.Nice going, Jimmy Page.
Zach Thornton Syracuse Mets - AAA LHP On Sunday, the southpaw tossed five shutout innings as the bulk pitcher. He gave up 2 hits, walked 2 and had 5 strikeouts. Explore Zach Thornton News >
