Green back, Johnson down, Gomez stays

Just saw in the wire that Green was activated after the game. Ben Johnson gets to go back down to New Orleans and Carlos Gomez and Ricky Ledee get to stay.

I'm a little surprised that Gomez is staying, but Johnson has been terrible. Maybe the three-run bomb yesterday helped his chances.

It was fun to see that in person.

Gary said during the game that Willie had told Gomez sometime before the game that he was staying up,glad to have Green back.

Even without the homer, Gomez is still the best defender far and away among the three, making him Beltran's only real backup and Green's defensive replacement.

So that places the choice among Ledee, Johnson, and Gotay. Ledee would have to go through waivers so I guess they wanted to get a real look at how he's doing before risking losing him.

Y'mean they didn't get a good enough look in over 800 games and 2000 AB so far in his major league career?

Do you find the .455 OPS of Ben Johnson over his 30 plate appearances more encouraging?

Career OPS: Ledee .569, Johnson .543.

I woulda made the same move. Ledee's leftiness beats out Johnson's rightiness. I'm eager for him to go the minors as well but for now I think this probably insignificant move is the right one.

Edgy, you're right about Johnson.
He wasn't even getting good swings on 85 MPH fastballs.

Too bad Lastings hurt his foot just as he was getting hot at AAA. He would have had a nice chance to show what he can do if he had been called up when Alou got hurt.
