Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 Anthony Hopkins plays Bert Munro, a New Zealander who travels to the USA with intentions to set the land speed record at Bonneville Salt Flats on a bike he made himself.Based on a true story.
Guest sharpie Guests Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 Haven't seen it but I did see the previews where they played the Clash's "Police On My Back." Movie didn't look that good other than the song.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 I don't recall the Clash being in the flick at all, but I liked the movie quite a bit. Don't want to give too much away, other than to say Hopkins gives a great performance and the movie is less about racing than you might guess. When I was a kid the land-speed record at Bonneville was one of the coolest things we read about in Guiness book of World Records. The others were of course the fat twins on the motorcycles, the guy with bees on his face, and the Siamese Twins.
Guest Rotblatt Guests Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 I really enjoyed this movie. Like JD says, Hopkins was great, and the movie overall was just really nicely crafted. The pacing's kind of slow, but appropriately so, IMO, and I never caught myself looking at my watch. Two thumbs up from me.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 Hopkins was his usual bad self, but the movie was something of a rewrite of The Straight Story.
