smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2006 Posted September 30, 2006 I'm in Minneapolis this weekend, for some recreation completely unrelated to baseball. I walk past a bar, which is advertising "Rondell White Nights." In short, they're charging his batting average for a beer. My hotel is right by the Metrodome, and there are lots of Twins fans here for the weekend. (And one guy with a Tigers shirt. I'm guessing he took a wrong turn.)
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2006 Posted September 30, 2006 There was some backup catcher for the Mariners who some bar in or around Seattle adopted for a similar promotion a bunch of years back. That he had a typical backup backstop's low BA made it all that more enticing. As I recall, he was well aware of the promotion and took it with good humor. Can't remember who it was.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted September 30, 2006 Posted September 30, 2006 So that's $.246 a beer?Next round is on me.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted September 30, 2006 Author Posted September 30, 2006 More likely $2.46, but for a disturbingly large stretch of the season that would have been under $2. Not what you want from your starting DH when you non-tendered David Ortiz a few years back.
