What should the Mets do about Pedro?

I voted this one.

Let him work on his problems and target him for Game 3.

That might be more of a vote from my heart rather than my head,I hope the Mets make a desicion soon on him as I would not like this to linger through next week with the potential for becoming a distraction.

I voted to leave him off the NLDS roster. If he's better, and we get that far, put him on the NLCS roster. But I don't think he's well enough to be good to go next week.

My vote was for "Put him on the NLDS roster and use him in the pen or in Game 4 or 5, if he looks like the best option."

I was torn between that one and the option Scarlett chose, leaving him off the NLDS roster.

If Pedro was a Yankee, and we were Yankee fans, I bet there would be a lot of support for the first option.

I went with use him in the pen/Game 4 or 5.

Assuming his calf continues to feel stiff, I'd like to see him pitch in relief in low-leverage innings (if such a thing exists in the post season).

Now, if his calf feels healed during his next few side sessions, maybe we could pencil him in to Game 3, but otherwise, I think we should take it slow.

I personally don't mind some ambiguity. If our offense can get going, I trust Glavine & El Duque to get it done in a short series.

I went with targetting game 3, but the game 4/5 is a more likely fallback option. I can't bring myself to say he should be shut down.

Okay, so what do we think will actually happen?

I suspect he'll be on the roster when it's finalized. (That happens on Monday, right? Or is it Sunday evening? The Mets might not even know their opponent until Monday at midnight if there's a tie-breaker playoff.)

I don't expect a firm announcement about whether Pedro will go in Game 3 or not until after Game 2. And a lot probably depends on whether the Mets are 2-0, 1-1, or 0-2 at that point.

I suspect he'll be on the roster for the first round - although unless he shows some remarkable improvement in side sessions (something WE, most likely, will never get the truth on one way or the other) over the next 4-5 days I'd be tempted to leave him off.

One of the scariest things is he hasn�t been able to �rise to the occasion� for some time now and in fact has allowed his emotions to get the better of him a couple of times. I�m particularly thinking about that debacle in Boston. Hopefully we�ll see the warrior in him again and soon!

This sucks. I'm guessing by the severity of the injury, he tore his soleus muscle which runs along the achilles between the gastrox (the meaty part of the calf) and the ankle. I tore the same muscle last year and it took six weeks of physical therapy before I felt perhaps 75 percent. 18 months later it's still a bit tight when I stretch it.

Plus,w/o surgery it's vulnerable to re-rupture at any time, and if one leg rips there's no reason to think the other couldn't.

At least we know that they won't put him out there when he doesn't have it. My fingers are going to hurt from crossing them until next year. Get well soon Pedro!
