Winter Passing

I never heard of this movie but Ms. Edgy is gonzo for Ed Harris so we rented it.

The latest in burgeoning sub-genre of traumatized single folk with glamours "Real World" professions living in New York or Los Angeles who are forced by circumstances to head back to their childhood home (usually in a red state) for a short trip that turns into an opportunity to confront their demons and disappointments.

The hometown is populated by screwballs and Martians, intitially embarassing but increasingly sympathetic... you know the drilll.

Anyhow, just because it's a formula don't make it bad. Zoey Deschanel is the protagonist, Ed Harris is her broken down burned out dad, and Will Ferrell is her dad's houseboy/handyman/bodyguard inexplicably bearing the speech patterns and emotional vulneralbitiy of a junior high student.
