Shall we not get TOO far out ahead of ourselves with the MVP chants in early April, please? As a gross parody of idiotic fan partisanship, they're very effective, but as a statement in itself, it makes the NY Mets fan base seem impossibly eager for a good outcome at last.

Ironically enough, idiotic fan partisanship often makes things worse Chanting MVP could, for example, encourage Wright to think he's got to hit everything out of the park. I think he's got his shit too far together for that to happen, but it could easily throw himj off his game as much as it could encourage him.

More seriously, if the Marlins offered Willis and Cabrera for Wright this afternoon, and the Mets hesitated long enough to cause the Marlins to trade them elsewhere because they needed time to gauge the degree of fan partisan loyalty to young #5, well, that would IMO be ruinous to the Mets' chances of putting together a contending team.

But maybe you're already persuaded that the Mets are this year's World Series champs and need do nothing but accept their post-season awards.

Paying $2 for tickets last night was alot better with a win, though it was pretty cool no matter what.

Talking to Yankee Fans (if you must) is much better when the Mets are 8-1.

Overhearing two teenagers in Penn Station (perhaps inspired by the sight of my smart Mets ensemble of 2000 warmup pullover and 2006 spankin' new blue/black cap) is more fun even at 8-2:

"Mets suck."
"No they don't. They have the best record in baseball."
"Yeah, well, the Yankees have 26 championships."
"How many they won lately?"

The convo ended right there.

On the train home, a couple who had been to see "Jersey Boys" sat behind me. The wife told the husband, "The Mets won again. 7-1, I think." For years, I've heard casual chat misreport Mets wins as losses because, you know, what else would a Mets game result in? But a loss reported as a WIN?

I can't remember leaving a loss and still feeling sky high.
