metirish Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 Ok this will take some reading, Wright's Dad is a cop not a DEA agent, right?]Profile(December 20, 1982- ) Born in Norfolk, VA Birth name is David Allen Wright Plays third base for the New York Mets (2004- ) Why he might be annoyingHe strikes out a lot. He makes too many fielding errors. He frequently visited former teammate Joe McEwing's home to eat his mother's home cooked meals. Why he might not be annoyingHe's one of baseball's best young hitters. He's considered a 'throwback' player. Ryne Sandburg referred to Wright as one of the few young players that will make baseball 'america's game' again. He makes some spectacular plays at third base. His plays have been featured on ESPN's 'web gems.' He won't be doing steroids any time soon, his father's a DEA agent. He grew up a Mets fan. Credit: Joe Fernandez

Theoldmole Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 ]Why he might be annoying After a year of feuding with Mets chairman M. Donald Grant over Seaver's salary and how the team was being run, Grant traded Seaver to the Reds for four undistinguished players, a trade that ripped out the hearts of Mets fans (June 15, 1977).This works for why Grant might be annoying. But Seaver?
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 From all the stories I've heard, Seaver is a prick. Not the same as being annoying I guess.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 We had a thread at the old place about Seaver being a prick, one of the guys here met him at an airport and got the Seaver don't come near me look...
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 It's too bad if he is a prick.

But Seaver?Well, usually when something like this happens today the media/fans tend to take the team's side on the situation, so it goes on the "Annoying" side of Seaver's ledger. Call it a product of all too many salery disputes over the last 30 plus years, or at least in the FA period in all sportsIts only when you deal with it case-by-case that you see who truely deserves the blame in these casesSteve
