Guest Rotblatt Guests Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 This thread was originally titled, "Baseball Gods, I Defy Thee: Probable Playoff Rotation."If, in some alternate universe, the playoffs started tomorrow and the Bizzaro Mets had won the won the wild card race (or, as they call it, the "Give Mediocrity a Chance!" race), who would Bizarro Willie start? Clearly, Bizarro Petey's a no-brainer, but what about the rest of them? Would Willie REALLY use Bizarro Zambrano over Bizarro Trachsel in the post season? Here are their options for 1-5 (although I'd think they'd use Petey for Game 5 if they got that far), along with their stats since the break for the Overhyped & Meaningless Game (except Seo, whose numbers reflect all his BMLB starts): Petey: 2.89 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, 7.47 K/9, 3.67 K/BB#2-5 Seo: 1.30 ERA, 0.77 WHIP, 5.77 K/9, 4.43 K/BBGlavine: 2.61 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, 3.63 K/9, 3.13 K/BBTrachsel (only 1 start): 0.00 ERA, 0.50 WHIP, 6.78 K/9, 3.00 K/BBBenson: 4.31 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, 5.80 K/9, 2.69 K/BBZambrano: 5.06 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, 4.88 K/9, 1.63 K/BBIn this strange and otherworldly universe, I'd say fuck the convention that you go with experience first, and run with the above order. Bizarro Seo has been dominant, and he should absolutely start after Petey. Bizarro Glavine's been seriously good as well, but I wonder how well he'll be able to shut down a powerful offense like St. Louis. I'd call Trachs and Benson a push, but since Benson looks like he's tiring, I'm giving the edge to Trachsel for now. Here's what I think Bizarro Willie would do if the playoffs started tomorrow:1. Petey2. Glavine3. Benson4. Zambrano5. PeteyI'm guessing he'd use Seo & Trachsel in the pen. And in case it's not clear, I also think that Bizarro Wilie is completely fucking retarded when it comes to managing pitchers.edited for hubris.edited again for hubrisedited for clarity

Guest Rotblatt Guests Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 Shoot, how'd I miss that thread? Anyway, it looks to me like we have a bunch of wussies not willing to tempt the wrath of the baseball gods by getting too far ahead of ourselves, Elster . . .

They are probably cowering in a corner twitching uncontrollably right now.Excuse me while I go join them...
Guest Rotblatt Guests Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 Generally, I'm a card-carrying member, but since there's NO WAY we'll make it to the playoffs this year, I feel safe in posing such a clearly hypothetical question. Perhaps I should rename this thread . . .

After all, what does it take to look at the balance sheet of money invested in a player, and then use that to determine their playing time?oe: fixed typo
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 1. Petey2. Benson3. Glavine 4. Seo5. PeteyThe question is if the playoffs started tomorrow. As hot as Seo has been, even bizarro Willie can see he has to get a start (assuming of course, that the team has not been swept.)
Guest old original jb Guests Posted August 29, 2005 Posted August 29, 2005 Only the Mets could have a manager make an overabundance of better than mediocre starters into a big problem.
