I'm suspicious of Cub Annie's knowledge of trivial Met events.

She says she's not really 'Cub Annie' but 'Astro Annie'.

Methinks maybe 'Met Annie'?

No, I'm just a mother of a Met fan, as it were.

Seriously, I borrowed a book from the library and it has a whole two pages on the incident. It also allowed me to send a correction to BaseballLibrary.com--they have the wrong umpire in their description. The guy they mention wasn't even on the crew, according to Retrosheet. I haven't heard back, so I don't know if they're going to pay any attention to me, but I at least noticed it and tried to get it fixed.

I tell ya what Ralph, the difference between how Reed is pitching tonight and how he pitched, ya know, last week in Game 3 against the Cardinals is all about cahnfidence. You know Ralph, the statheads don't know this, but how good your changeup moves is all about...that's right...cahnfidence. You know all Reed has to do is get his cahnfidence up--there's a double by Agbayani, Mets take a 3-2 lead--and that cahnfidence will lead to a better changeup and that will make him more cahnfident.

And ya know what else would give him more cahnfidence?

'nother tough call, but I went with the Annie ditty.

Funny story,
back in the 80's one of our journos was going to interview Meat Loaf (my uncle actually but that's irrelevant). Anyway, interview was set for 11 am at the crappy but expensive "Jurys Hotel" in ballsbridge. Now, Jurys may be crappy in my book, but the one thing it always had was good cable.

Hence the following exchange...
Dermot [to reception guy]: "I'm here to interview Meat Loaf, he was due to be in the lobby/bar for 11 am but I can't see him. Do you know where he is.

[hushed phone call]

Reception Guy: "I'm sorry sir, but Mr Loaf stayed up rather late watching boxing on his Television and feels that he'll be unable to fulfil his commitments the morning."
