Ryne Sandberg on David Wright

Taken from Ryne Sandberg's Yahoo Sports column:

With baseball "reeling" from the steroid stuff, do you think that baseball needs heroes that can bring the game out of the scandal? The first name that comes to mind is Albert Pujols. He plays hard, he's humble, he's a role model and he's put up consistent numbers every year, even this year. That indicates to me that he's "clean."

Definitely. There are a few players that have the ability to bring the game back to the national pastime. Off the top of my head are Pujols, Miguel Cabrera, Mark Teixeira and David Wright. These are the players that baseball should be relying on to put the game back into a positive light. I would also look to the veterans of the league that understand and respect the game: Derek Jeter, Greg Maddux, John Smoltz and Craig Biggio.

Not surprising that Sandberg would mention Wright, you should hear it when Larry Bowa talks about Wright, he freaking loves him, the catch in Seattle is to Bowa one of the great catches all time, Bowa when he's on BBTN and talks about Wright has nothing but great things to say about him, and rightly so.
