Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 Wow. I just finished a review of the 1963 season. Re-reading this discussion was great.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 I just retro-fitted my tables with exciting borders for clearer reading.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 OK, we have some significant disparities in this one. The top ten match up but we have big differences in the middle, particularly with Jay Hook. It might have been me screwing around, but I should have at least noted changes I imposed onto the spreadsheet in the thread.1963 RankingsPOINTSPLAYERSPREADSHEET SEZ:30Ron HuntRon Hunt29Carl WilleyCarl Willey28Roger CraigRoger Craig27Jim HickmanJim Hickman26Al JacksonAl Jackson25Duke SniderDuke Snider24Frank ThomasFrank Thomas23Larry BearnarthLarry Bearnarth22Tim HarknessTim Harkness21Galen CiscoGalen Cisco20Tracy StallardTracy Stallard19Charlie NealCharlie Neal18Jay HookAl Moran (+1)17Al MoranGrover Powell (+5)16Rod KanehlJoe Hicks (+1)15Jim (actually Joe) HicksJesse Gonder (+4)14Ed KranepoolDuke Carmel (+6)13Choo Choo ColemanEd Kranepool =orange](-1)12Grover PowellRod Kanehl =orange](-4)11Jesse GonderDon Rowe (+5)10Joe ChristopherJoe Christopher9Ken McKenzieKen McKenzie8Duke CarmelJay Hook =orange](-10)7Pumpsie GreenChoo Choo Coleman =orange](-6)6Don RowePumpsie Green =orange](-1)5Jimmy PiersallJimmy Piersall4Chico FernandezChico Fernandez3Hawk TaylorSammy Taylor(Hawk didn't appear until '64)2Cliff CookCliff Cook1Norm SherryNorm Sherry
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 OK, we have a minor crisis here. Which is the authentic table?OE: On first glance, mine looks like it was culled from JG's 40-man list above.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 Assume that yours is correct.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 I usually don't get into the rankings, even though I saw every Mets team play. But here are some things about that 1963 season that you might find interesting:The Mets search for a regular third baseman throughout their history has been oft mentioned. The thread above mentions Jim Hickman, and he is rated highly. But does anyone remember that Hickman played the second most games at third for the Mets that year? He played 59 games there, and had a fielding pct of .914 (not good).Charlie Neal, who most think of as a second baseman, played 66 games at third in 1963, and had a .963 fielding pct. To put that into perspective, a player remembered as one of the best fielding third baseman ever, the Yankees' Cletis Boyer, had a .954 fielding percentage that same year.Later

Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 Why are all these getting re-done?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 They're not. Knot is just posting them as tables to confirm that we all have the same list.We generally do, we didn't for 1963.
