"I say the Mets' best position player ever is going to be conceived this coming Wednesday afternoon in Tupelo, Mississippi."

Bret, that reminds me of a true story from my Army days.
The Company First Sarge had stood in front of Friday morning formation and told us that all weekend passes and leaves were going to be cancelled because of Pentagon required training. He added that he would grant one only for a reason that he had never heard before.

I was in the office when a GI came in and said, "Sarge. I need a pass. My wife is going ot get pregnant this weekend, and I want to be there when it happens."

He got the pass.

Lance Berkman's take on the Milton Bradley-Jeff Kent racial feud provided what is possibly the baseball quote of the year.

''I think (for Bradley) to make it a race issue is ridiculous,'' Berkman said. ''J.K. doesn't discriminate against anybody. He ignores Latinos, blacks and whites equally.''

Felipe Alou on Wright's dinger last night:

]"That kid hit the ball a long ways," Alou said. "The fan that threw the ball back probably has a sore arm. It was so far up in the stands, there was probably a relay."

]"I don't want to make this a big thing, then go back to New York, give up an eight-spot, and I'm a turd again. So I keep it down."

--- Steve Trachsel after an eight-inning two-hit performance.

"We had to move the P. We had to simplify it. 'Diddy' is more personal. We are entering into the age of Diddy. It's a new era." -- Sean Combs

Now I realize this has nothing to do with baseball. But I wasn't sure that I could live with myself if such a profound statement by such a towering modern figure weren't shared with as many people as possible. I didn't want any of you to miss out on this important change.
Just speaking for myself mind you, this statement may be the most moving since the members of 'KISS' declared; "we had to take the makeup off out of respect for the music".
Of course they later put the makeup back on so maybe that one wasn't so profound after all. But at least we know that Sean/Puffy/P/Diddy won't do something like change his name again. After all, "it's a new era".

He went on to explain that the P was getting between him and the fans.

What a guy! Sacrificing his P for the sake of his fans.

Silly guy that I am, I always assumed that it was the cadre of large, menacing, armed men that he employs who usually get between him and the fans.

This being a stark contrast from R. Kelly, who's P has a way of finding his fans

KISS may have doffed the makeup for the sake of the music, but I'd rather have that P back than all Combs' music.

"...We are entering into the age of Diddy. It's a new era." -- Sean Combs

I think they misheard Sean Combs. He said Diddly.

"...We're entering the age of Diddly...."

Bless you, Knot, for finding the inner strength to post that.
When I heard that news, I was so overwhelmed that I could not muster up enough to post it myself.
You have performed a true service to the CPF, and should be rewarded for it.

What this forum needs is more quotes from P. Diddy.

The only thing that can possibly top this will be the quotes from Britney Spears on parenthood.

Mom, please don't post those during lunch time.

Makes a mess, y'know. :)

]To not even get to first base when the ball is caught by an outfielder, that's just unacceptable to me. That's not right. It's 4-5 at bats a game -- 4-5 sprints. That's not asking that much.

Chipper

]"I respect that organization and the players over there," Jones said. "It just so happens that when we play each other a lot late in the season over the last few years, I've had some pretty meaningful hits."

Trachsel

]"It's not just Chipper, it's all those guys. They just find a way," Trachsel said. "You can't relax against them."

Beltran

]"I thought we were going to win today's ballgame. We had a chance to score some runs and we didn't do anything about it," Beltran said. "I was very positive we were going to win, but things happen."

I think Carlos meant to say, "We had a chance to score some runs and I didn't do anything about it."
