Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 On the CPF, the message coobers posted included the following:As we stated yesterday, if a thread was not replied to in the time between the attack and when the server your board is on was rebooted, then the information in that thread is most likely permanently lost. We have discovered that unless a topic is replied to the data will be lost. If you are experiencing this kind of problem (continued data loss after June 2) and have not contacted CS please provide the following information: Board URLs, dates, names of the forum/board to ezboard CS at: p079.ezboard.com/fezboard...=554.topic . ----- Um... Have we "contacted CS?" Should we be saving archives by replying to every post before they disappear? (Is Sal's MOFO archive completely dead because we didn';t know this?)What to do?
Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 What about data being lost in topics that are replied to? The A Propos of Nothing thread was losing posts as soon as we could type them last week.I know that cooby and some others would prefer to stay at the old board, but I have to tell you that I have lost my faith in ezBoard's ability to meet our long-term needs. Is there any way to adjust posting levels so that the people who don't feel like starting from scratch won't have to?
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 Is there any way to adjust posting levels so that the people who don't feel like starting from scratch won't have to?I think there might be. I was granted a look under the hood today, and I figured out how to restore the posting levels from the CPF. The remaining question is whether or not we'd have the necessary permissions.
Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 I've been working on the featured archives. It's tedious, but for a good cause. If anyone wants to bump up his/her ezBoard post count, get over there and save some archives NOW!!!!
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 I whaled a little more than half of Gen Archives X today, which relives such puketastic glories as the 2003 ALCS.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 Listen, I don't know if this is helping, but it's sort of what we're instructed to do. Would anybody who has time pick a forum that still has content and reply briefly to each survivig thread. My boss is riding me like Seabiscuit today. Annie, on the other hand, is trying to save your song parody forum.
Guest seawolf17 Guests Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 I took that statement to mean that any thread that had no replies is already gone; it seems silly to go through and just add replies to threads we can still see.Can we get clarification before we go too crazy?
Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 Crap - I can't reply to this, because it's locked, and it's a classic. Can anyone help?http://p079.ezboard.com/fthecranepoolforumfrm11.showMessage?topicID=417.topic
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 Re-opened.OE: Also reopening locked threads form the Parody Forum.
Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 I have about 20% of the first Featured Archives forum activated. It's tedious work at the best of times, but it's worth it to save the info - there are some treasures there. When ezBoard gets really slow, it reminds me why I always hated the place, even before the crash.
Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 Here's another locked one - http://p079.ezboard.com/fthecranepoolforumfrm11.showMessage?topicID=362.topic
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 I'm heading to the Member Promotion Forum to save it.
Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 Thanks. I think I'm almost halfway through the first featured archives. Many hands make quick the work. If anyone has a few minutes, grab a forum and activate a couple of threads. Every little bit helps.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 I finished respnding to what was left of the Members Promotion Forum. Most of the threads were pretty old and I think many of them were only partial threads. There were no responses after late 2004.I will head back over to the old homestead later to "save" threads in another forum.
Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 Thanks RD - that's much appreciated :)
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 I have decided to start on the Non-Baseball Forum Archives. There is 19 pages of threads, so it will take me quite a while to respond to all of them. This is proof positive that I need to get a life.
Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 I may need to shut down if this thunderstorm is as close as it seems. But I'll aim to finish the first Featured Archives by tomorrow.
Guest KC Guests Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 I'm going to restore the rankings forum as best as possible. I already hadforty years saved but there's a definite cut off point so more recent additional comments aren't there but it's a start. The entire rankings forum is now empty over there. So much has happenedover the last couple of days, I don't trust my memory, but wasn't that one ofthe forums that was initially spared? Thanks to everyone who is cutting and pasting ... youse is the bestest.
Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 This is the thing that bugs me most about the cyber-tsunami - the fact that we are still losing things almost a week after the crash. How can they restore anything when they can't even stop the bleeding?
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 I'm starting on Featured Archives Vol. II. Didn't feel like studying for the GMAT anyway.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 Now I'm a little confused. Are we supposed to be responding to the threads that still exist or are we to copy and paste things here? I'm willing to help out as best I can, but I'm not really sure what it is I should be doing. KC, I take orders pretty well; just ask my wife. If there is something you would like me to do to help out, just let me know and I will do it if at all possible.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 I don't understand either, but the collected wisdom of Widey, Cooby, and myself, reading the obscure missives of Mr. Labatt, has concluded that the best plan is to respond to whatever remains.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 I'm still working on X. Instead of replying with a regular "r" on most threads I'm getting a snarky last word in.Uncovered a few hidden gems. It ain't about the sneakers.
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 I started with the lyrics to 'Country Feedback,' realized I missed a verse, then went mostly for non sequitur. I didn't actually read most of the threads, so I have no idea what I was replying to. Might actually be funny, but highly unlikely. Then I started reading some of the threads, which slowed me down a lot.Oh, and I also found the thread that caused me to take off for a few months. The first time. That was fun to look back on.
Guest cooby Guests Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 My boss is riding me like Seabiscuit today Oooh, Edgy.I started on IX today between phone calls but man, it's long. Worth the effort though if it helps.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 And not if it doesn't. What a faithful crew.
Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted June 6, 2005 Posted June 6, 2005 I'm on p. 17 out of 19. If I don't finish before bed, I'll finish off the forum by tomorrow morning,
