Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 9 Author Posted May 9 Torrens stays in but Weaver got shaken up watching his catcher drop.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 9 Author Posted May 9 Deep hole now. Nothing good really happening since the second out.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 9 Author Posted May 9 Kinda not keen on watching shots of white dudes bathing in the outfield.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 9 Author Posted May 9 Just saw only the seventh total hit of the game for both teams together. It's a strange game these days.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 9 Author Posted May 9 Big stop by Simmy and the top of the order comes in the ninth.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted May 9 Posted May 9 Hey, there’s the value Semien’s supposed to be bringing to the team. The Hot Corner 1

An article in The Athletic today about how the banning of the shift did NOT bring the base hit back. I didn't dive into it but it shows that sometimes the result of what you think you're going to get isn't always the case.

It's harder to bring back the base hit if that's not what they're really going for.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 9 Author Posted May 9 That's not a pitch Vientos has been getting around on. Very gratifying to see.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 9 Posted May 9 Vientos doubles on the first pitch of the 10th, and my first reaction is to think, cool., we've got the leadoff hitter on ... not even thinking of the runner already on 2nd. So five years in and I'm still not used to this whole ghost runner thingie. But, as we all know, the visiting team needs more than one run in the clown car era.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 9 Author Posted May 9 Inneresting to see Bruján and not Taylor getting the pinch-running call.

I didn't dive into it but it shows that sometimes the result of what you think you're going to get isn't always the case. The gist is that (1) the focus on defense and positioning is a big part of the long-term decline in batting average, combined with (2) different hitting strategies (better to hit it in the air than on the ground). There was a one-year uptick in batting average after the shift was banned but those two long-term trends have not changed. The Hot Corner 1

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 9 Author Posted May 9 Semien eliminating the double-play with the steal is HEROIC! See? There are multiple ways to avoid DPs. We end up with a hard out, but it would have been two otherwise.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 9 Posted May 9 A good inning was looking like a great inning ... and then it crashed on two straight pitches.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 9 Author Posted May 9 Williams leaving the game is goofy. What are you saving him for?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 9 Author Posted May 9 Working without heat but certainly effective. Myers shuts it down.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 9 Posted May 9 Well, McLean didn't get the 'W' but it was still just the second win in eight McLean starts this year. MFS62 1
