Memories of Dom Hamel

One inning into his MLB career, he has been claimed off waivers by the Orioles.

Most obviously, he set an MLB record as the 46th pitcher the Mets used in a single season.

I associated his name with figure skater Dorothy Hamel, she of the famous Hamel Camel move.

Unfortunately, Dom never made it over the hump.

I remember rooting for him to make the majors.

I remember when he was a phantom major leaguer, having been called up and sent down before making his debut.

I remember when he was promoted, my cockles warmed.

I remember when he was DFA'd and scooped up by another team, gone too soon.

Dom Hamel and Blade Tidwell, two of the Mets more well-regarded minor leaguers these past couple years, are no longer with us.
