Derek Falvey Given Title Of Senior Advisor To Baseball Operations By Mets

With reports of his addition to the front office coming to light the day before, the New York Mets on Thursday made the Derek Falvey move official. And now he has a title.

Falvey was announced by the Mets as a senior advisor to baseball operations. As expected, this makes him a pretty powerful voice in the ear of David Stearns, the embattled president of baseball operations. The pair worked together previously in the Cleveland Guardians' front office.

In his last stop, Falvey was POBO for the Minnesota Twins. He mutually left the position in January after a difference in philosophy following a change in the Pohlad family's ownership voice.

One other move was announced by the Mets. Kris Gross was named assistant general manager of scouting. Gross' title had been vice president of amateur scouting, so his new role would seem to encompass all aspects of the Mets' scouting department.

Awkward title — he advises to baseball operations?

The regular coining of new titles makes linear comparisons of figures across time difficult.   I suspect that's part of the point.

"By any metric, that guy has outperformed you as a scouting director."

"Hey, I'm not a scouting director!  I'm the senior analyst of player assessments!"
