Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 2 Posted August 2 The Nats, who aren't in fire sale mode as they still have WC hopes, dealt offense for badly needed pitching by sending power lefty 1B/DH Luis Garcia (Jr. - his father Luis Sr. got 9 ABs for the Tigers in 1999) to the Bronx in exchange for four pitchers, several of whom already have ML experience. I'm not sure that these quantity over quality deals work out very often for the club receiving the multiples but I guess the Nats figure that his gives them strength in numbers at least for the short team. Garcia is 26 although already in his 7th ML season and will be under NYY control through next season. Not sure how many 1B/DH/corner OF types this gives the Yanx (Stanton/Goldschmidt/Bird/Garcia/Jones - plus Judge and Bellinger eat up some DH time if/when they get back from the IL) but they've rarely gone wrong stocking up on LH sluggers (Garcia currently has 23 HR and leads the NL in Slg Avg)
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted August 3 Posted August 3 A five-game losing streak at the wrong time turned the Nats into at least partial sellers. I guess the Nats felt they needed to trade offense for pitching, but I still don't make this deal if I'm them.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 3 Posted August 3 I don't like the Nats and Yankees dealing with each other. Those are two of my adversaries I prefer to keep separate.
