Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2025 Posted August 5, 2025 If it's any consolation -- and, no, I know it's not -- the Mets are currently the best pro baseball team in NYCThe Yanx are now 0-5 in August and are 9 games under .500 since May 28, going from 7.0 G up in the AL East to 5.5 out and on the verge of being on the outside looking in in the AL WC race [1/2 G ahead of Texas for WC #3].Tonight was a 2-0 loss in Texas which they got two-hit by (ex-NYY) Nathan Eovaldi and a couple relievers.Rangers scored twice in the 8th off a two-out/two-RBI hit from Rowdy Tellez. And while our pitching might stink, at least it's not as bad as the Nationals. The Nats have given up 70 runs (and scored 26) over the last six games (to HOU & MIL). That's 11.67 RA/G if you're scoring at home (or even if you're alone).
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2025 Posted August 6, 2025 Boone seems untouchable, as does Cashman , MFY fans aren't happy about it
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2025 Author Posted August 6, 2025 I think Boone is quite touchable. Maybe not before the season ends, but if they don't make at least one of the WCs anything is possible this winter.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2025 Author Posted August 7, 2025 After losing 2 of 3 to the Rangers, the Yanx will get a visit from the other Texas team this weekend so their path doesn't get any easier. The Phillies head to Arlington for a set with the Rangers so their game times will pretty much synch up with ours. The Braves are hosts to the Marlins for a five game series (THU, FRI, SAT x 2, SUN) which I mention for a couple of reasons (currently 6-5 MIA in the 7th)*- this is where the female ump will debut (starting Friday or Saturday I think) and will work the plate in the Sunday tilt- and when was the last time the Braves & Marlins played when the Marlins had a Nine Game Lead over Atlanta? The Braves, who started the season 0-7, have spent two days this year over .500: they were 23-22 on May 16 and 24-23 two days later. They're now 47-66 after going 9-21 since July 1st, although with a 'Pythagorean' score that suggests they should be some 7 games better. From May 7th thru June 8th they went 10-19 which included a stunning 13 losses by one run (and three more by just two).So they're both bad AND unfortunate! A minus 30 RS/RA doesn't normally result in being 19 games under .500Other series of note: Cubs (tho now 4 G behind MIL) @ Cards; division leaders Jays @ Dodgers* Braves win 8-6
