metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2024 Posted June 25, 2024 Look, probably means nothing, but perhaps the Mets back to MSG one day ?https://nypost.com/2024/06/24/sports/steve-cohen-picks-up-stake-in-james-dolans-las-vegas-sphere/https://nypost.com/2024/06/24/sports/steve-cohen-picks-up-stake-in-james-dolans-las-vegas-sphere/
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 25, 2024 Posted June 25, 2024 It's hard to lose money investing in Vegas, but some folks sure seem committed to testing that proposition.I'd be loathe to get into bed with James Dolan, but I imagine, like with the Wilpons, Cohen is insinuating himself in initiatially with the purpose of taking over later.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2024 Author Posted June 25, 2024 Good call , I would be curious to know if Cohen ever made a play for SNY and he's been rebuffed , if the Mets ever left SNY it would be finished
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2024 Posted June 25, 2024 Wilpons didn't want to give up SNY in the deal if I recall. I think there was a bigger deal almost in place that would have included it, but Jeffy and Fred backed out. The irony would be if the Mets went elsewhere when the deal is up, but that doesn't happen until 2035. One of the last things they did before selling the team was extend that contract with SNY. It's basically the only asset they have.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 25, 2024 Posted June 25, 2024 Oh, they have plenty of assets, including Sterling Equities still holding 5% of the team.
