Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 2, 2024 Posted May 2, 2024 José is a journeyman AAA catcher with a career .123 MLB average. Apart from being Venezuelan to the core, perhaps not a lot would stand out about him. He's not a Met, and I imagine he's unlikely to ever be one. Last anybody checked, he was doing his thing for The Reading Fightin' Phils, to the tune of .129 / .206 / .129 // .335. That's six points higher than that MLB career average posted above, but that's the advantage of AAA.[FIMG=300]https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f4/Jose_Godoy_catching_warmups_between_innings_%28cropped%29.jpg[/FIMG]Why is he relevant to you? Well, back on June 18 of last season, the Baltimore Orioles just HAD to have themselves a little José Godoy on their roster. They couldn't help themselves. He would never even appear for the team, but I imagine the O's were down a receiver, and for a moment in time, this is the guy they thought would be the answer. And so, to make room for him, they designated for assignment one Reed Garrett, and a few days later put him on waivers, from which the Mets were wise enough to rescue him.Reed Garrett, your MLB leader in strikeouts by a relief pitcher, delivered into your lustful arms because an ascendant organization like the O's needed a little Godoy.Life is funny sometimes.[FIMG=500]https://nypost.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2024/04/new-york-mets-pitcher-reed-80247820.jpg?w=1024[/FIMG]
