Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 13, 2023 Posted June 13, 2023 A stinky loss tonight is also a costly one. The Smith ejection comes with an automatic 10-game suspension. Also lost with Smith will be Smith's roster slot, as the Mets will be unable to replace him on the team for reasons that aren't entirely clear to me.Considering how important bloaty bullpens are to the latter-day team, and considering how much work they just got after a 3 1/3-inning start by Max Scherzer, it's certainly possible or even likely that this means another demotion for Guillorme to squeeze another arm onto the team. Or possibly a demotion for Vientos. Or possibly a DFA for Vogelbach.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2023 Posted June 13, 2023 Sounds like they can't do that. Will Sammon of the Athletic reported that Smith's spot counts as one of the maximum 13 pitchers that can be on the active roster.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2023 Posted June 14, 2023 This hurts badlyThey will need to add a pitcher at the expense of a position player. The above options are all valid ones for sureThey seem to be trying to not play Vogelbach. Vientos is lightly used and unproductive. Guillorme's function could be covered by Escobar. Escobar could be at dfa risk also reallyI'll go with Guillorme being demoted although none of the before mentioned options would surprise meMaybe someone gets traded for an arm
