The Mets take on the Pirates for three this weekend

Pitching matchups are

Tylor Megill 4.40 era whip 1.62 v Rich Hill 4.41 1.38

Kodai Senga 3.75 1.44 v Johan Oviedo 4.29 1.48

Carlos Carrasco 5.94 1.40 v Mitch Keller 1.16

The Pirates are 32-29 one game back and 16-15 at home. They come off losing two of three to the A's

Improvement

The NL central is quite middling at the moment but the Pirates have played well. They started strong in step with Tampa Bay. A slump ensued and of late had won six in a row before losing to Oakland

Catalysts

Speed The Pirates 68 stolen bases are best in the NL with Bae leading with 18

Mitch Keller Rather unexpected but Keller is playing the role of ace here. He has 94 K's in 74 innings and pitches to a 3.10 Era and a very good 1.16 whip

Jack Suwinski He is the top power guy with 11 hrs. Pirates are excited that he has lowered his chase rate and increased his barrels by significant amounts. Ke'bryan Hayes has stayed healthy at 3B

Who needs Cruz? Oneil that is. Arguably their top talent. The 6'7 SS broke a leg a in a home plate collision in April and is expected back in August. The Pirates have played well without him with Jae Won Bae and Rodolfo Castro stepping in here

Brian Reynolds Signed long term and the face of the franchise. He leads the team with 38 Rbis

Help in the way? That would be 2021 1st round draft pick catcher Henry Davis who plays everyday at AAA and the Pittsburgh Gazette feels he should be called up now

Weak division, newly good team on the upswing
