Minor league pitching coordinator and rookie-level pitching coach Carter Capps has left the organization to become pitching coach for The University of Seattle, only a year after having been recruited away from biometric training agency Driveline to join the Mets.

Some idle chatter has projected ex-Met Buddy Carlyle as a fit for the role, as he had previously been hired by Billy Eppler in Los Angeles. Driveline founder Kyle Boddy was also supposedly a person of interest earlier in the fall.

Capps was known for a blazing fastball and unconventional motion that helped him to a 1.16 ERA for Miami back in 2015, before tearing his UCL and standing by helplessly as MLB explicitly outlawed his pitching motion during his rehabilitation. The two combined to ffectively end his career, but he was looked at as a forward thinker with a big future last year when he joined the organization as a coach and coordinator at just 30.
