Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted August 4, 2019 Posted August 4, 2019 This is the counter to the 'i give up day' thread.Still one-under. They'll, presumably, struggle a bit again, so make hay when you can. Marlins and then two big division series. And don't rule out a Braves stumble. The Mets are technically only 9 losses behind and have 9 against them.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2019 Posted August 4, 2019 Let's assume here that the Braves are out of reach, but then also that the two seemingly weaker teams slightly ahead of us (SFG & ARZ) will fall behind and stay there.Using those conditions as givens, that means they'd realistically have to catch and pass four (or more) from the group of Phils (3.0 GB as of tonight), Nats (3.0), Brewers (2.0), Cubs (5.0), and Cards (3.5)It won't be easy - especially when the schedule stops providing us with cupcakes - but it certainly looks a bit more plausible than it did about a week and a half ago.Bottom line: they're going to have to beat some tough teams head-to-head ... and of course that's the way things are supposed to be.
