If they do this (trading Syndergaard, that is), they are going to get a huge haul back. They are also going to take a factored in hit in the rotation. But "hit to the rotation" does not have to be the same thing as "gigantic gaping hole where Noah Syndergaard once was", so let's go over the options. . .

I used this link for reference. Based on what I saw there, realistically I do not see them as being in on Corbin or Keuchel. I do see them shopping in the two to three year term, $12 million to $16 million AAV range. That puts Eovaldi, Morton, Happ, Lynn, and Gonzalez on the list. Whoever they end up with slides in not as the ace or co-ace but as a solid 3 or 4 behind deGrom, Wheeler, and possibly Matz but ahead of Vargas (with the actual day to day rotation probably determined upon righty/lefty separation).

Maybe Eovaldi because he's youngest, but there are good reasons to not outbid the whole league on any of these guys (Happ is getting old, Morton can't go 6 and is getting old, Gio's best years are behind him, Eovaldi has not been consistent). I'd see if Todd Frazier could get us Sonny Gray or if Cespedes could get us most of the way to Zack Greinke before I added substantial payroll for guys who don't impress me.

Another way of saying this is: trading Thor had better give us the best lineup in the league.

Where would Frazier even fit on the Yankees right now? Andujar is entrenched at third and Voit needs a lefthanded platoon partner. This also assumes that a third baseman is coming back in any sort of Syndergaard trade.
