RealityChuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2018 Posted July 27, 2018 Reports are that the Mets have signed Austin Jackson to a Major League contract.https://www.sny.tv/mets/news/mets-sign-veteran-outfielder-austin-jackson/287610834Probably a sign they're planning to move Bautista.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted July 27, 2018 Posted July 27, 2018 Or they don't really like den Dekker.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 27, 2018 Posted July 27, 2018 It's too bad that a guy named after two Texas cities couldn't stick with Texas. Maybe Midland Waco or Dallas Sanantonio will have more luck.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 27, 2018 Posted July 27, 2018 Possibly.I'm curious if it says anything about when or if to expect Jay Bruce back.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2018 Posted July 27, 2018 [tweet:367sqteh] [/tweet:367sqteh]They have MdD who can "catch the ball" but is not getting "a few hits."
RealityChuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2018 Author Posted July 27, 2018 Jackson is right handed. If Joey Bats goes, they're going to need someone who hits from that side. Hell, they probably could use someone even if he stays.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 27, 2018 Posted July 27, 2018 And, over the course of one rough game last week, he wasn't catching the ball quite as prolifically as they had perhaps hoped.I'm hesitant to judge what he has left too harshly based on that game. He's a lot stronger going back than Nimmo and Conforto, certainly. This would also get the African American total on the big league roster up to one, which ties a season high.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 27, 2018 Posted July 27, 2018 Ranking Jacksonian MetsAlRoy Lee ToddDarrinDarrin was actually bad enough for the 1993 Mets that Austin might outrank him just by being added to the roster, putting on the uniform, and not spilling anything toxic, or maybe spreading any viruses.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted July 27, 2018 Posted July 27, 2018 These days, a new roster addition being virus-free ain't no fait accompli, mon frere.bmfc1 wrote:This year's version of Aoki?Exactly it.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2018 Posted July 27, 2018 Dumpster diving. Rather see some minor leaguers get those at-bats.Matt denDekker, white courtesy phone.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2018 Posted July 27, 2018 Jackson is signed, will wear No. 16, made legendary by Kevin Kaczmarski.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2018 Posted July 27, 2018 Jackson was hot stuff for a while.Drafted in the 8th round by the Yanx out of a Dallas area HS, IIRC he was a basketball player mostly but became an example of successfully drafting in later rounds based on athleticism. He hit it big enough to reach top-50 status in prospect-ville and when he did the Yanx spun him off as part of a multi-team deal that involved Max Scherzer and landed the Yanx Curtis Granderson.Five years later Jackson was involved in another multi-team trade, this time involving David Price 'mongst others.Still only 31 y/o and coming off a good year in a part-time role for Cleveland in 2017 [.318/.387/.482 in 318 PA] while playing all three OF positions, he's not quite 'dumpster diving' material even if his 150 ABs for the Giants this year are nothing to write home about. Hey, he's got 36 hits this season (8 doubles) which is 36 more than den Dekker.
