Neither impress me much, but the action shot in 1941 is preferable.

Given that the artist is still at work, I think it's fair to refer to the 1968 cover as The Unfinished Portrait, foreshadowing the managerial tenure of Gil Hodges. In both cases, Mullin and Hodges got a lot done on their canvases.

The play at the plate is completed, and 1971 is called out.
