Nationals sign their former lefty to a minor league deal. Truly they can have him.

Mets picked him up when they were fresh out of usable starters. His presence did not change those circumstances. The signature moment of his 2017 tenure, for me, was when a twentysomething who admitted he didn't know much about baseball (but was part of a group outing adjacent to my seat at Citi Field) earnestly asked whether if the Mets were bringing in Tommy Milone and his 7+ ERA it meant the Mets didn't care about winning the game.

"I mean an ERA over seven is pretty bad, right?"

Biggest gap between forearm tattoos and actual toughness in team history. Easily could have belonged to a 19th century team with that name and how softly he threw.

Only needed to be adequate to be a success, and wasn't that.

Shows just how acute the crisis was that he got so many chances. There were just so many rookies they were willing to prematurely cycle into big league duty, so they kept recycling Tommy. You'd figure they could have released him and picked up a Lommy Mitone off the same waiver wire where they found him, but no.

There probably was/is major league ability in that arm, but damned if we ever saw it for more than two batters in a row.

Made his big league debut against the Mets and homered in his first big-league at bat, against Dillon Gee, who assures you that he's feeling fine, really, OK?

That he's a grown man who goes by a child's diminutive should have been our first clue as to how Big Boy Pants he would be for our guys.
