  1. =bmfc1 post_id=124567 time=1683408718 user_id=73] Another lousy start from a pitcher who should be in the minors and yet he's not going anywhere.
  2. As Edgy mentions Scherzer and more importantly Verlander present should help manage early innings. Despite Detroits last good pitching I believe from Rodriguez Verlander kept them in the game. They simply didn't connect or convert enough. They've struggled in games like the Braves series as pitching has struggled to prevent early leads. This has been compounded by the fact they've struggled to score as reliably since the Western road trip in the games I've seen. The bats will get hot again. But putting defensive pressure back onto the opponent through miserly pitching will really help players loosen up. Keeping the other teams quiet early and the game within reach like the Verlander performance will make all the difference to the hitters confidence. They'll figure it out soon, I hope….
  3. More emphasis on speed and base running More put the ball in play Defensively I would say the infielders are more "on point" Just my take Totally on board with the removal of players wasting time and slowing the game down unnecessarily. Have watched and listened to multiple teams so far this season and there are a lot of different starters and bullpen guys struggling to balance the pitch clock and opportunities to pick someone off which has certainly made for some interesting innings to put pressure on by stealing. I'm sure most will have adjusted by mid season to provide a defensive counterbalance.
  4. =ashie62 post_id=124555 time=1683405559 user_id=90] With these new rules the Mets look slow and old
  5. Everyone enjoy the second game and I hope we split the day, I'll listen tomorrow. Let's go Mets!
  6. Ooof that sucks. Might be a good time to drop the habit of giving up multiple runs in the first couple of innings before game 2.
  7. Woooo, nice shot Lindor! 5-4 Mets!
  8. Frayed Knot wrote: I didn't think Pham's shot was far enough or fair enough. Turned out it was just barely so in each case. To quote Howie Rose, it was a ‘sneaky home run.'
  9. Wahoo solo home runs for everyone!
  10. That's nice, glad most said thank you too. Next time should be a double fist bump with a sweet and savoury option. Filter out who has the sweet tooth's on the team. 😋
  11. Almost recovered from the Reyes size hole, almost. If they keep the bats hot for game 2 and get some more reliable pitching in the first half of the game it's certainly winnable with that performance. Enjoy the second game. Gotta check out for work tomorrow. I'll look forward to listening to a Mets victory tomorrow. Let's go Mets!
  12. =ashie62 post_id=123956 time=1682964379 user_id=90] Kinda have to hope Strider runs out of gas It did look like Buck was warming someone up for the second
  13. Strider is on 36 pitches after one so he might be gone quickly. Even if he keeps throwing strikes. 36-23 after one.

  15. Some reflections on Dennis Ribant's role in Mets history for your rainy weekend baseball void http://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/2023/04/29/five-innings-5000-losses-one-avatar-of-promise/here. Really interesting article thanks for posting. Interesting little trade tree points including Dennis' moves and resulting in a World Series win. Love looking retrospectively at a players journey, seeing where it takes them and the final impact it has on teams. Any hockey fans should check out Steve Dangles videos for Sports.net (Canada/Leafs), they do some really good deep dives tracing every draft pick and considerations that change hands.
  16. Just like to say hello to everyone as a new member and this seemed like a good place to do it. In regards to the Peterson discussion for relief on Monday. I've recently come back to baseball and noticed the Mets have a slightly unbalanced roster starting rotation and relief for lefty/righty match ups. Does Citi field benefit righties more or is it pretty even?
