  1. Starts in Buffalo. Around May-June, someone has a 2-3 start stint on the DL and he comes up and pitches pretty well, and sparks much debate about whether they should even let that Young/Capuano guy return from the DL. People get creative about 6-man rotations, long-men. Someone floats the idea of having Gee start, and Capuano finish the last 3-4 innings. He ultimately does return to Buffalo until September, when he pitches a couple of innings out of the pen, and gets the start Monday 9/26 (We clinch 9/25). Doesn't make the postseason roster, but obviously does get a ring. 1.2 WAR

The guy who threw the no -no-hitter? yeah, that one. numbers aren't taht great otherwise. He'd have to be paid the 2.3 million i believe...and perhaps traded for as well? (preseason waivers confuse me) The idea here being that they'd rather him starting in AAA and are trying to get him off the 40man? Sorta like the Mets did with Igarashi?

No it won't. the Mets have 41 guys for a 40 man roster, and everyone know the Mets want him off the team. Why give the Mets anything if you can have him April 1st for free? well, not for free. I guess it might be worth giving the Mets a crap MI filler not to ahve to have Boras tell you you should give him more than league minimum? do the 41 guys include krod? because he's still in the disqualified list. not on the 40 man. that'll be another person that needs to leave assuming that krod gets back on the 40 man on opnening day which is to be expected. no, K-Rod would be 42. I've mentally assigned K-Rod Santana's spot, who likely can be transferred to the 60 day DL the same time Frankie needs to be activated.

(The eggs/basket thing.) And the hope is that Santana will be back for the last 12-15. So that bridges that gap, and maybe someone in Buffalo shows something to fill in when the other gets hurt.
  5. Adam Dunn?

  8. interesting. I got my parents a puzzle from Cooperstown of Shea Stadium. It's a much broader scope picture, and it's Opening Day 2005, but I'm in that one somewhere.
  9. I think the Mets would have to have a philosophy change and be willing to spend more money. Smart decision making or not, everyone makes bad signings or guys get hurt. Paying $50+ million for two players doesn't leave you a whole ton of room to make mistakes with the other 23 guys, especially if it jumps up to 80+ with Wright and Reyes.
  10. I like Nick. I think he'll make a case to be the 'favorite' bench guy in that he'll make the occasional backup start for Wright/Murphy/Bay and Beltran (by way of RF and Pagan in CF i imagine) and be the "pop" guy off the bench in pinch hitting roles. I'm not expecting a ton of playing time over all, but I think he'll have some big moments, hit some big home runs/doubles and be a pretty useful and versatile player over all. AND I'm going to try to get his autograph. so there. .8 WAR.

Unless Christie starts offering Mets license plates in Jersey, or sets it up so donating blood here gets Mets tickets, I couldn't care less who he claims to root for.
  12. I expect him to get offered back to Toronto, but them decline and he ends up in Buffalo.
  13. Was probably more entertaining than the football game. but wow, 1994?
  14. metirish wrote: Heyman had a tweet the other day saying that Cashman did not want Soriano but was overruled by Steinbrenner, " Cashman the team player went along". No link was provided. I posted a link up above regarding some of that. Rivera had a 'big influence'.
  15. and Girardi has not exactly been known to manage a bullpen well.
  16. metirish wrote: Collins has said that this is his lineup http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/mets/post/_/id/13410/collins-confirms-planned-lineup-bowling-on-tap Terry Collins plans the following lineup, and pledges not to have major day-to-day adjustments Jose Reyes Angel Pagan David Wright Carlos Beltran Jason Bay Ike Davis The Nos. 7 and 8 spots will go to the second baseman and catcher, depending on whom is playing those days Collins confirmed that configuration, which he has floated in the past, during a visit to Port St. Lucie by the Post . worst kept secret ever. the lineup pretty much makes itself this way imo.

  19. Purchased tickets to Digital Domain Park. Friday 3/18 will be sitting 118, row A, in touching distance of the Mets bullpen. I don't remember who this is. I'll be a couple of sections closer on 3/19, section 112 and row B.
  20. Woah. http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/columns/story?columnist=matthews_wallace&id=6020636 Now, grain of salt because It's Matthews (and the column itself is gag worthy), but remember when certain Mets players were criticized for possibly getting involved in making decisions about prospects and personnel? Just because it's Rivera doesn't make it better does it?
  21. metirish wrote: This thread if anything has complicated WAR, or I should say shows how complicated it is. The great Mets infield of Ordonez, Olerud, Ventura and Alfonzo must have had a great collective WAR?, is that even possible? They had a combined (b-r) 8 defensive WAR. 20.4 overall (although Rey was negative offensively) The team had a 25.4 WAR via batting. McRae and Bonilla combing for a -4.2 WAR without even a full season of AB. Although how McRae managed a -2.2 Defensive WAR probably speaks to the credibility of the defensive stats.. I feel like I'd put up better than that.

To think, that's four seasons removed from Pete Falcone's 2.0 pacing the team. You don't really need the numbers to tell you, but that season was a volcanic eruption of goodness. Well, i kinda do, as I was 3 at the time, but yeah. .8 with the bat? heh, he probably could've batted cleanup on that '81 team.
  23. Benjamin Grimm wrote: So what was the Mets best WAR season? I'll guess Carlos Beltran in 2006 for offense and Tom Seaver in 1971 for pitchers.* *These are wild-assed guesses, by the way. http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/NYM/ sort by top player Gooden in '85, 12.5 WAR Seaver was 9.7 in '73 and 9.6 in '71 Top offense, Olerud in '98 ties with Gilkey in '96 with 8.1 (Beltran 8.0 in '06) Pete Falcone let the '81 Mets with 2 WAR
  24. Oh by the way, because of the luxury tax Soriano's $35M is really $49M.
  25. also good news, its' the 14th and no one's made a "injuries of 2011" thread yet. we're ahead of last year!
