  7. John Maine the Freight Train!!!!!!
  8. Oh great. Come on, get out of this one.
  9. Wright gives us the lead!!! David Knocks 'Em In!
  10. Maine takes a big swing and gets aboard. Reyes up. 20 SB's in August for Reyes?!?!?!? Reyes hits a single!
  11. Let's pair Joe Morgan with Tim McCarver. We can call it the "Senile Sportscast". They'll say more bone-headed things than we'll be able to keep track of.
  12. Conine better do something good tonight. I've got one of my favorite clips of all time prepared for him.
  13. The Barbarian is at the plate.
  14. Anyone know when Duaner Sanchez is supposed to come back?
  15. At least it's better than not running at all... paging Timo Perez...
  16. Lastings gets aboard. This will always stick with me when thinking about Lastings:
  17. Z! Where the heck have you been?
  18. Of course his starting career affected how he was looked at. If you may recall, a lot of chatter among baseball writers at the time he was voted in was that his starting career allowed him to be pushed over the top in their minds. Remember, Hall consideration for relievers is very much a new phenomenon. The fact that he put up pretty good numbers as a starter as well as being a phenomenal reliever eased the concerns of a lot of old-school folks.
  19. Edgy DC wrote: ="Valadius"]I'd retire #8 for Carter immediately. Jeez, you wouldn't even have some sort of ceremony? LOL.
  20. Regarding Pedro, that's not what I mean. What I merely was saying was that we currently have a guy wearing #45, so retiring it would be more than a little bit weird right now.
  21. Eckersley is in a class all by himself, though, having done all that time as a starter and winning nearly 200 games during his career. Thus I consider Hoffman the first modern closer on his way to the Hall.
  22. I am arguing for it, though not to the degree the Astros have. I'd retire #8 for Carter immediately. Then comes the conundrum of how to approach #31 and #45. We'll end up retiring #31 once Piazza hangs up his cleats. But what about John Franco's contributions while wearing that number? And of course, once Piazza came over here, Franco switched to #45, a number I wish we'd retire for Tug McGraw. But Franco might possibly merit retiring a number too - and how would you go about it? Can you honor two players with one number? Or three players with two numbers? And what about Pedro Martinez, who currently wears #45? So I would retire more numbers, but for more significant contributions to this ballclub.
