  1. Me clicking an Instagram link: "Well, I haven't really been to Instagram in a long time. Might as well see what this is abou ... HOLY SHNIKEE!! I'm being followed by a LOT of well endowed young women! I wonder what triggered their interest in me!"
  2. Scherzer struck out eight and walked one in four and two thirds. He coughed up three runs (two earned) in his last inning, but I'm guessing his next start will be in the bigs. An RBI triple by Matt Winnaker just put The Ponies up 4-3 in the seventh.

(Or would you just stand pat)? Oh, I'd totally stand pat. I have big philosophical differences with how they're deploying their assets, but among the folks in the majors and in the minors and on the Injured List, they totally have the personnel. It always seems like another reliever or two would make the difference, but if the Mets got 10 relievers, they would still seem to need two more.
  4. I'm not sure he's particularly talking, so much as Olney has gone to work and got himself the story through third-party sources. I don't even think he's written it up as a story so far, just a tweet. Apparently he was represented by a Microsoft spreadsheet application. Who knew?!

Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: I hate to remind my friends here of this, but you are old white men, and old white men's perception of how things "ought to be" is at the heart of interfered-with progress everywhere you look right now, and it's tedious. It's not like the providers of the alleged progress here are diverse, democratic, youthful, and financially divested from the impact of their decisions. I want progress like I want cold water, but I disagree with baseball lords about how progress is measured and how it is arrived at. I'm totally willing to go to bat for progress. But beyond that, I just think ... wait just a minute ... shit ... I have to change my catheter.

  7. Apparently, Freddie Freeman's teary trip to Atlanta has brought some buried feelings to the surface. Buster Olney is reporting that he has fired his representatives and is still pissed about how his free agency played out. Not sure how that'll play with Dodger fans and teammates.
  8. Don't swing when the tying run is behind you in the ninth. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.
  9. That was a juicy-assed pitch.
  10. I don't like Drew Smith coming in. You've got to try to squeeze two innings out of Diaz here.
  11. Yeah, it looked more disorienting than dangerous. I hope so, anyhow. Astros still have two dudes on their bench.
  12. I had to head out for emergency backyard duty, and missed most of that Diaz inning. We may need Darryl to hit the clock if we're gonna win this one.
  13. Nothing that time either, though. Eighteen of 19 for Verlander.
  14. The McNeil/Verlander matchups have been the most interesting part of this game, but so far Verlander has two Ks. Here comes the Jeff.
  15. Verlander has totally deGrommed this game, coming out awkward, making an adjustment, and becoming brutal somewhere between the start of the second and the start of the third. Marte's popout to short center on the first pitch as the second Met batter of the game looms large.
  16. Ronnie, Keith, and Gary are on fire today, but confusing Strother Martin and Scatman Crothers is just weird.
  17. I was kind of disappointed that Guillorme was at third instead of second, but man, he's all over the field this afternoon.
  18. Verlander isn't throwing everything up anymore.
  19. The Mets haven't scored yet, and Verlander is Verlander and is going to make that tough, but I confess to feeling more enthusiasm than expected seeing a turn through the lineup not include Escobar. Get right, Eduardo.
  20. Interesting thing about that inning to me was that there was nothing in the dirt. Even with the few breaking pitches Verlander threw, everything was up.
  21. If they don't score here, they're making him labor.
  22. I was ready to cry "Bunt, Nimmo, bunt!" but doubling on the first pitch works.
