If you step back far enough, you can frequently spot to see different patterns of names coming out of Venezuela than might be coming out of other Caribbean countries. Obviously a name can come from anywhere, but such an effort can lead you in a Wilson Alvarez-y way. Is a first cousin of Alcides Escobar Kelvim Escobar? There you go! Kelvim is our guy! Exactly 100% of the Kelvims in MLB history are Venezuelan!! While I abhor answers phrased as questions, I celebrate Gwreck's answer because Kelvim is not only our seventh-winningest Venezuelan pitcher, but had the saves list gone to 10, you all would have seen that Kelvim is also our seventh-savingest Venezuelan pitcher, and then Gwreck could have really raked in the fake points! I'm really disappointed in how poorly you folks know your felons. Venezuelan Winners Felix Hernandez: 169 (Gwreck) Freddy Garcia: 156 (Marshmallowmilkshake) Johan Santana: 139 (batmagadanleadoff) Anibel Sanchez: 112 (Marshmallowmilkshake) Wilson Alvarez: 102 (Frayed Knot) Kelvim Escobar: 101 (Gwreck) Carlos Carrasco: 99 (batmagadanleadoff) (TIE) Venezuelan Saviors Francisco Rodriguez: 437 (Johnny Lunchbucket) Jorge Julio: 99 (Johnny Lunchbucket)

[TH]HIGHEST-PROFILE TENURE[/TH][TH]INTERESTING FACT[/TH]

[CROSSOUT]Blue Jays[/CROSSOUT] Cubs Cubs Expos [CROSSOUT]Orioles[/CROSSOUT] Pirates Rangers Rockies Twins [CROSSOUT]White Sox[/CROSSOUT]Claimed to be really happy when he heard his team got Aroldis Chapman. 2. You sure? How many of the Mets' top minor leaguers would you trade to get Trout? Is there a number you would draw the line at? Is there a point at which the Angels would say "Ok, that's enough, we don't want any more"? As I wrote, there are deals an organization shouldn't make, but that doesn't mean they cannot make it.
3. Edgy MD wrote: Well, the Angels would be terrifically foolish to take back another megadeal in exchange for the one they are trying to dump, so deGrom, Lindor, and Scherzer are probably be right out. Right. It's not clear who would back out faster, us or them, but someone would, I think. Which is why I'm interested in a huge package of dirt-cheap prospects. Are there enough of them in any organization (or in the Mets') to make such a deal feasible? Sure. Any organization can put together a package for any player. Not every organization should, obviously.
4. Well, the Angels would be terrifically foolish to take back another megadeal in exchange for the one they are trying to dump, so deGrom, Lindor, and Scherzer are probably be right out.
5. My guess is that they'll use the days off to hold deGrom out one more turn, and keep him from having to make his return against a top team. Not ideal to me, but betting on teams being conservative with their pitching assets is a hard way to get broke.
6. Wilson Alvarez is correct! Yer man won 102 games in the majors, 67 with the White Sox. He also went to the Sox along with Scott Fletcher and Sammy Sosa for Harold Baines and Fred Manrique. Not Texas' finest hour! Omar Oliveras won 77 games, which would place him 10th on our win list ... if he hadn't been born in Puerto Rico and raised in the U.S. Omar Minaya is here to school you kids: Venezuela does not hold exclusive rights to the name Omar. I don't want to lead anybody straight to the treasure here, but the guy who did seven years for attempted mur-diddly-urder, and who sired a big-shot Mets prospect that didn't pan out, also has one clue I could give you that 100% of you would get in a second. 7. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: It's Omar.. Daal Omar Daal is 12th in Venezuelan MLB wins, with 68. It is a fine guess but it will not avail you. I won't dock you because I'm not really keeping score on this one. I'll throw in another hint. The dude that got the attempted murder conviction was also the father of a big-time Mets prospect. At least, his son was pretty big-time at the time of his signing, and quickly started making top-ten lists, but he topped out in Brooklyn, back when Brooklyn meant the short-season high-A NY-Penn League. His dad's prosecution was going on while he was trying to get his career off the ground so maybe that's part of why things didn't work out.

9. Go ahead. My answer keeps it from being a consecupost.
10. Julio is indeed our Oriole, our Armando wannabe, and our #3 savior Venezuelan Winners Felix Hernandez: 169 (gwreck) Freddy Garcia: 156 (Marshmallowmilkshake) Johan Santana: 139 (batmagadanleadoff) Anibel Sanchez: 112 (Marshmallowmilkshake) Carlos Carrasco: 99 (batmagadanleadoff) (TIE) Venezuelan Saviors Francisco Rodriguez: 437 (Johnny Lunchbucket) Jorge Julio: 99 (Johnny Lunchbucket)
11. Kaz Ishii!!
12. Innis, Isringhausen ... um ... Ionescu?
13. Yeah, I'd argue that the small type size and lack of graphics to break up the text is what keeps FAFIF from hit counts that spike through the roof, but that would come from a place pure jealousy over what is the best blog around. FAFIF is about writing and reading. And the Mets. Blow up those font sizes on your browser and read.
14. OK, I was thinking in terms of clues. We have TEN guys remaining. Firstly, all of these guys pitched in the 21st century. We've had Venezuelans in baseball since 1939, but it is in the latter day when they came to MLB in such high concentration. So, some of these guys may be easy to confuse and conflate with others, but there's a good chance you have a passing familiarity with most of them. Beyond that I'll list them all by the team they had their most wins (or saves with) and then list them all in terms of an interesting factTM about them. The two lists will not correspond with each other in terms of order. 15. You don't want to be making those non-guess guesses, man. It's not as exciting for you to find out you're right. It's not as exciting for me to let you know you're right. But you're right! Venezuelan Winners Felix Hernandez: 169 (gwreck) Freddy Garcia: 156 (Marshmallowmilkshake) Johan Santana: 139 (batmagadanleadoff) Anibel Sanchez: 112 (Marshmallowmilkshake) Carlos Carrasco: 99 (batmagadanleadoff) (TIE) Venezuelan Saviors Francisco Rodriguez: 437 (Johnny Lunchbucket) Kluez to kome!

19. This isn't an easy one. I'm going to bed so now you too can sleep on it and answer tomorrow. Name the top ten winningest MLB pitchers from Venezuela. Bonus points if you can name any of the top five savingest pitchers from La Tierra de Gracia. One answer per post. No answering in consecutive posts. Yada-yada-yada. Yabba-dabba-doo.
20. He's an asset. And now he's an asset that has bagged the rare and elusive three-inning save.
21. Sounds like the Royals can use themselves some Ender Inciarte.
22. Also, I think The Proclaimers are sitting behind home plate. https://metsrostercentral.files.wordpress.com/2022/07/screen-shot-2022-07-14-at-10.36.51-pm.png>
