  2. Nimmo breaks late on the flare and the Pirates are running away.
  3. Michael Chavis is listed at 5'10" but he looks shorter. Funny that he's a first and Godzilla is over there at short.
  4. Nimmo's second time overthrowing the cutter-offer this evening.
  5. Tim Foli selling peanuts.
  6. The dead stadium ain't gonna help much.
  7. Hopefully Pete takes that defensive play to the plate this inning.
  8. A tip of that ill-fitting cap to Frances Tiafoe for an improbable upset of Rafael Nadal at the US Open. [fimg=650]https://photo-assets.usopen.org/images/pics/large/f_TiafoeLindorCiti.jpg[/fimg]
  9. So, I missed a few innings there. Has there been a report about Marte?
  10. Nimmo got one over the bullpen there.
  11. Terrible Escatbat there. Come on, Mets. This game is on my record.
  12. That was Danielle https://twitter.com/ellesep/status/1567295876468449281 who is a good fan and worth following. Please invite her by.
  13. I hope the Mets get one of those Doug Drabek bobbleheads out of this game.
  14. Alonso is working on a Joe Torre of a game.
  15. Vogelwalk with one out in the second. Pinch-runner time!
  16. This is a lousy crowd. We should all go to Pittsburgh for the double-header tomorrow.
  17. Flor Cawley of Glendale is your State Farm Agent of the Game/ https://s3-media0.fl.yelpcdn.com/bphoto/zWW52zDrtS5zfX6srjv0Xg/348s.jpg> Win it for Flor!!
  18. Well, this is why we are more likely to see pinch-runners in late innings, when one run (or one base) is more likely to be a difference maker — and when that next time around the batting order is less likely to come, especially if we can't plate a run here and now. Lifting Vogelbach for a better runner in the middle innings would indeed be a relatively exceptional case, but it is made more viable by a DH rule that protects you from automatically needing bench players available to pinch-hit for the pitcher, and by available replacements who may or may not be considered a big step down from him as hitters, depending on how serious a matter you consider his recent chase-happy slump to be.
  19. Nah, not even as close as all that when healthy.
  20. So when healthy, at least, he's nearly as fast as Ruffles generally, but not so much during their Met tenures.
  21. Tylor Megill rehabbing with Binghamton and preparing to rejoin the Mets as a relief pitcher for the rest of the season: Date: September 1 Opponent: vs. Somerset Tylor Megill enters game in top of sixth with Binghamton trailing, 4-1. Jesús Bastidas strikes out swinging on 2-2 pitch. Mickey Gasper strikes out swinging on 3-2 pitch. Oliver Dunn strikes out swinging on 3-2 pitch. Date: September 4 Opponent: vs. Somerset Tylor Megill opens game in top of first. Elijah Dunning strikes out swinging on 1-2 pitch. Everson Pereira strikes out looking on 0-2 pitch. Austin Wells strikes out swinging on 1-2 pitch. You never want to make too much either way of minor league rehab appearances but, you know, tell me you're Edwin Diaz while not actually being Edwin Diaz. 22. Well, I'd say he wasn't three weeks ago, but since he's had a tweak, his speed has been markedly reduced in the observations of my facial light-sensing orbs. I think, one-two weeks ago, there were probably three or four players on the team who could out-run him backwards. He seems a little more comfortable now, but still hampered.
  23. They can kind of do that (designated runner thing) if they are of a mind. Naquin can replace him the first time he reaches (or Ruf, if they expect a lefthanded reliever going forward). That way, still have a guy who can hit in there who is a capable runner, but they get the advantage of the stongest hitter up until then. Gore can be used later if they need to pinch-run for Alonso or the catcher, or even take over for Ruf or Naquin. If both Vogelbach and his Ruf/Naquin replacement have reached during the game, leading to a Gore getting a plate appearance in the DH slot, well, they've probably had a pretty good game. If the game is still in doubt and you don't want Gorgasm at the plate, the Ruf/Naquin figure that hasn't been used is still available. DH managing makes it less risky to spend some of your bullets early.
  24. After weeks of agitating that has taken place almost completely inside my head, Buck Showalter has bumped McNeil back up to the 5-hole. And as private a matter as it may be, since he was DFA'd and he can't be traded and he apparently hadn't been released, it was, of course, obvious that the wire was exactly where he was. Anyhow, Connor Grey is still a citizen of Metopia.
