1. Show me the designs they turned down!
2. Despite some of the jokes being shopworn, Howie kind of knocked that out of the park. I tend to think that, in years past, a mid-winter's sportswriter's banquet was probably the best audience your shtick could hope to have.
3. It's all a matter of degrees. He's a prospect, I'm a prospect, you're a prospect, Tim Tebow's a prospect, and Tina Yothers is a prospect. He's just less of a prospect than he was. On the other hand, he's still at the top of the list of prospects in this post.
4. He had a football player's neck and his big-moment homer was an upper-decker.
5. If you click, the likelihood that you'll love that song is dramatically high. Marshall Crenshaw has subsequently made it a staple of his setlists. His studio version is below because the 100 clips on YouTube have iPhone-quality recorded sound, but it's always a highlight of his shows. [FIMG=300]https://collectauctions.net/ItemImages/000028/E3537b_lg.jpeg[/FIMG] [FIMG=300]https://images.footballfanatics.com/new-york-mets/tom-seaver-new-york-mets-autographed-white-cooperstown-collection-jersey-with-multiple-inscriptions_pi4298000_altimages_ff_4298695-597c7f7664175af98161alt2_full.jpg?_hv=2&w=900[/FIMG]
6. Drummer/songwriter Grant Hart (whose name is very much like that of Grant Hartwig) was the co-leader of seminal (I kinda hate that word) Minneapolis alt-rock legends Hüsker Dü. The names converge even more when you consider that the band's last indy album was called Flip Your Wig. The guy's solo career was spotty, not because he didn't still write terrific songs, but because he abused a lot of drugs and wasn't particularly good at any instrument once he came out from behind the drums. But he still had some highlights, and one of his most beloved songs is the heartbreaking split-up song "2541." Yeah, that's a lot to muddle through for an obscure reference, so you have my apologies, especially since I know that music ain't really your thing (despite your glorious Parody Challenge victory). But just listen to this song. 'Coustic version: 'Lectric verision:
7. If Grant Hartwig isn't assigned the number 2541, I'll be very disappointed.
8. I'm Jim Mann! — I'm a goddess! I'm Jim Mann! — Well, I'm a virgin! I'm Jim Mann! — I'm a blue movie! I'm Jim Mann! — I'm a bitch! I'm Jim Mann! — I'm a geisha! I'm Jim Mann! — I'm a little girl! And WE MAKE LOVE TOGETHER!
9. I miss the old girl... https://live.staticflickr.com/3010/2754917853_7c735eacb8_k.jpg> Hey, holy smokes! First dgw posts in about two years!
10. Not for the first time in Twitter history, but nobody really looking particularly great there.
11. I appreciate a thoughtful response. Zero tolerance policies often are about PR, but don't really curb the incidents, and certainly don't address the underlying cultural issues.
12. Stepping in-a rhythm to a Kurtis Blow Who needs to think when your feet just go? With a hippity-hop and a hippity-ho! Who needs to think when your feet just go? Brian! Bohannon! Brian! Bohannon! Who needs to think when your feet just go? Brian! Bohannon! Brian! Bohannon!
13. Well, teams and/or leagues frequently undertake their own investigations and act according to their own conclusions. And they are certainly justified in doing so, as their policies may not align perfectly with the law's. Nor may their priorities, burden of proof, rules of admissibility, etc. be the same. Zack Scott, for instance, lost his job, but was ultimately found not guilty. I may agree or disagree with the team's decision, but they are certainly within their rights to act independently of the court's outcome.
14. The nickname actually showed up for homer number 14 (7/11/2014) and homer number 15 (7/22/2014) and then disapeared, possibly forever. Two homerun calls appear to be missing. One seems to be missing, but turns up instead later, out of order. One homer is a walkoff. Two are apparently called by somebody not named Gary Cohen. One homer is delayed by an umpire conference. One of the fun parts of the video is what a great review it is of the rightfielders of 2014. "And he rockets one to deep right-center field! Back goes Bruce! Looking up! And it's OUTTA HERE!" Lucas Duda with a two-run homer — his FIRST homerun of the year!" "And Duda cracks this one to right. Bruce goes back! Looking up near the wall … and it's OUTTA HERE!" Lucas Duda with his second two-run homer of the NIGHT!" "And Lucas cracks it to deep center field. Back goes Trout to the warning track! Back at the wall! Leaping … but it's OUTTA HERE!" Lucas Duda ties the game!" "Duda drives one to deep right field. Back goes Robinson near the wall … ! It's OUTTA HERE!" Lucas Duda with his fourth homerun of the year!" "DUDA cracks one to right field! PUIG goes back! TAKES a look! And it's OUTTA HERE!" Lucas DUDA with his fifth homerun of the year!" "And Duda CRANKS one to deep right-center field! Back near the wall goes HARRISON … and it's OUTTA HERE!" Lucas Duda leads off the last of the ninth with his sixth homerun of the year." "Duda cracks one to deep right field! Taking a look is Harrison, but that's WAY outta here!" Two-run homer for Lucas Duda to break the game open, his seventh of the year." "Duda slams one to center. Chasing Gwynn BACK! WAY back near the WALL! It's OUTTA HERE!" LUCAS DUDA — a TWO-RUN HOMER to put the Mets in front in the ELEVENTH INNING!" "And Duda … cranks one to right … and deep … aaaand GONE." (Not Gary Cohen.) "DUDA drives one to DEEP RIGHT FIELD! Stanton looking UP! NEAR the wall … aaand ... it's OUTTA HERE!" LUCAS DUDA with a TWO-RUN homer! THERE's your answer!" "Lucas DRIVES one! DEEP right-center FIELD! Back goes Crisp! BACK near the wall! It's OUTTA HERE!" FIRST pitch, LUCAS Duda, pinch-hit three run homer!" "Duda hits one down the left FIELD line, headed toward the CORNER. That ball issss …. OUTTA HERE!" Lucas Duda tucks one inside the left field foul pole! His TWELFTH homerun of the year … ." (This homerun, off Yu Darvish at home against Texas, appears to be missing.) "DUDA cracks it to deep right field! For-GET it! Stanton doesn't even MOVE! Into the Pepsi Porch!" A two-run BOMB! The BIG Lebowski!" "And DUDA cracks one to DEEP right field! For-GET it! That is WAY, WAY outta here!" Off the auxiliary SCORE-board! A MON-ster shot! The BIG LEBOWSKI, and it's 3-1, New York!" "Duda hits it out to right-center field .. DEEP …. ! Gomez back to the track! At the wall! It's OUTTA HERE!" Lucas Duda breaks up the shutout, with his 16th homerun of the year! Mets are on the board and the towels are out." "And HE SWINGS and DRIVES ONE! Deep right FIELD! Braun looks up! IT'S OUTTA HERE!" LUCAS DUDA WITH A TWO-RUN HOMER AND THE METS HAVE THE LEAD!" "And he cracks one to deep right field! Braun goes back! Takes a look! And it's OUTTA HERE!" Lucas Duda DOES IT AGAIN! BREAKS up a SCORELESS TIE! His EIGHTEENTH homerun of the YEAR!" "DUDA cracks one to deep right field! For-GET THAT! THAT'S up in the Pepsi PORCH!" A two-run BOMB for Lucas Duda — his nine-TEENTH! And THAT adds the icing — it's now ELEVEN to two." "(Hey, here's number 13, out of order.) "Duda flies one out to left … pretty well HIT! Back goes Bruce! Looking up! And it's OUTTA HERE!" Now the ball hit at the top of the orange padding — the question is did it hit ABOVE the orange padding and off the railing. If it DID, it would be a homerun." The call on the fiield by third base umpire D.J. Rayburn was that it was in play. It hit the railing and it WILL be a two-run homer for Lucas Duda." [*](Now this one is missing.) [*]"Duda hits one well to center. Chasing back is Revere. Back to the track … to the WALL … and it's OUTTA HERE!" Into the shrubbery! Lucas Duda! Number 21!" [*]"Duda hits it WELL to RIGHT-CENTER! Back goes Ruggiano! To the TRACK! At the WALL! It's OUTTA HERE!" Lucas Duda breaks the ice with his 22nd homerun of the year!" [*]"(Also not Gary Cohen.) "And Duda drives one to center FIELD! FULD back on his horse! THIS one is deep, aaand …. THIS ONE IS GONE!" A THREE-RUN homerun for Lucas Duda! And the Mets have ERUPTED against Jeff Samardjiza." [*]"He hits it DEEP to right field! For-GET it! That is WAAY outta here!" Lucas Duda to the BACK of the Pavilion! A THREE-RUN BOMB!!" [*](This one is, again, missing.) [*]"Duda get's hold of a-NOTH-er one … deep to right. Back goes Ethier! Looking up! And it's OUTTA HERE!" Lucas DUDA with his second of the DAY! Number 26!" [*]"And HE smacks one to deep center field! Hamilton back … to the WARNING TRACK! At the WALL … it's OUTTA HERE!" The Mets' FIFTH homerun of the night! LU-cas Duda with a two-run shot — his TWEN-ty SEVENTH of the year!" [*]"Duda drives one DEEP right field! BACK toward the corner! It's OUTTA HERE!" Lucas Duda with a two-run homer BREAKS the ICE in the sixth inning! NUM-ber 28 for Duda and the METS go in front, two to nothing!" [*]"And Duda crashes one DOWN THE LINE! Toward the POLE … !! It's OUTTA HERE!!" The Mets win the ballgame! LU-cas DU-da OFF the foul pole! A two-run walkoff homerun!!" [*]"Duda hits it deep right FIELD! Back goes PRES-ly, near the WALL … It's OUTTA HERE!" NUM-ber THIR-ty for LU-cas Duda! In his final at-bat of the season, Lucas Duda provides a memorable milestone!"
15. I checked the box for Pete and The News also, but I'm getting the feeling that the enigmatic pose of Francisco Lindor is going to take MISERY all the way, and years from now, it will draw more viewers than most as it hangs in the winners gallery — with Lindor's contortions and it's elusive connection to the story getting it branded a obscuritanist modern minor masterpiece. That is Lindor, right?
16. We're using up a lotta Parody Challenge ideas here.
17. And yet, for a few nights around Duda's eighth to tenth homer, there Gary is, saying it right out loud.
18. The offseason began by claiming Tayler Saucedo off of wavers, and it looks like it's ending by losing him the same way. 19. Anybody remember this being Lucas Duda's nickname for a period?
20. Why are we talking about him? Edgy MD wrote: I stumbled over some footage of him pitching at home against Colorady in 2019, and it took me a disturbing number of beats to remember who he was. I'll add that I usually reserve a special place in my memory for Francophonic Mets. (Craig Paquette and Mike DeJean will confirm this for me.) Please feel free to use this thread to request a fact about your own Met of whom you recall too few facts.

Most likely Perez will, and probably Mejia, but camp invite info stays strangely embargoed these days. Mejia joins infielder Jonathan Araúz among the Mets small-but-mighty Panamanian contingent, and will likely compete with Panama in Pool A of the World Baseball Classic. He's improving each year in his power production (26 homers in 2022), and seeing a correlating lack of power as he goes.
22. That's a good fact! I stumbled over some footage of him pitching at home against Colorady in 2019, and it took me a disturbing number of beats to remember who he was.
23. Gimme a fact about Drew Gagnon.
24. I think it's the stanchion chain that needed to be pulled aside for the power couple's arrival.
