  1. Shouda squeezed. Or squozen.
  2. Pinch-run Locastro for Canha. Or something.
  3. I approve, Marte.
  4. Álvarez hitting cleanup next inning.
  5. Smith hung the hell out of that one. Also, Keith knows Carly Simon.
  6. Smiff's 95 MPH seems to come in a little harder.
  7. Bill Miller behind home plate has what looks like a nasty cat-scratch on his forearm.
  8. It seemed to come off the handle a little bit, too. Lotta muscle on that shot.
  9. We have a rookie with power also.
  10. Is there an early source where we can read about the Carter whining campaign?
  11. Mike Tauchman looks like the return of Neil Walker.
  12. Stroman pitched all three batters the same way. Got all three on sliders down and in.
  13. Keith looks like he's been crying.
  14. You're too kind. I guess the point is: I missed an hour in the middle of the game. And though I missed little in the way of game-altering action, and the time was, by most measures, probably better spent on the struggling dog, the groceries, and the recovery of my reading glasses, there remains an absurd but haunting notion in the back of my mind that suggests the outcome would have been different had I remained loyally at my screen, rooting on players who can't hear me and don't know of my existence. It's stupid, but I was on thread duty for the last five games and they won, despite almost exclusively playing catch-up ball. I was on thread duty for a sixth game, they fell behind, and then they fell further behind, and lost, as I missed the middle innings. It's stupid, but part of me feels compelled to step up and own that loss.

Did Cardenal also do it? https://www.sportingnews.com/us/mlb/news/joel-youngblood-two-hits-for-two-teams-same-day-1982-mets-expos/jtp9kadw3r171hdjti066djrhhttps://www.sportingnews.com/us/mlb/news/joel-youngblood-two-hits-for-two-teams-same-day-1982-mets-expos/jtp9kadw3r171hdjti066djrh Later No. Cardenal was a Phillie in the first game of the doubleheader, but didn't play in that game.
  16. What a great drop of amber to capture the 1980 Mets in, when their short-term acquisitions of Claudell Washington and José Cardenál (who switched teams in the middle of a doubleheader, if I recall correctly) gave the power-hungry offense an air of mediocrity.

Frayed Knot wrote: James is obviously having some fun here responding to MFY fans upset that he won't vouch for Munson's greatness or sanction their demands for immediate inclusion into the HoF. And what other fanbase so regularly cites being 'The Captain' as if that's an 'accomplishment' which represents something worthy of consideration when evaluating a season or career? I'm not sure how much captaining should matter, but probably a little in some cases and not at all in others. In the very early years of the Hall, when the standards were necessarily very high, the support for Frank Chance was stronger than for a lot of players who had clearly better statistical cases. It's true that home fans will often see better than others whether a guy is captain in name only or is really leading is team in a substantive way. It's also true that when something can't be measured, fans will often see what they want to see.
  18. Oh well, I had a five-game thread-startin' winning streak. Waiting until the end had been paying off. But not tonight.
  19. Baty first-pitch swinging in the ninth. Not the way to be a Met.
  20. OH! LET'S TAG FULMER!
  21. Going for a second inning with Leiter. I don't accept that.
  22. Bah. Swung at ball four twice.
  23. Leiter, I'm not saying you shouldn't go all out against McNeil here, but your uncle isn't in the Mets Hall of Fame yet, you know?
  24. An odd film in that it deserves every bit of criticism it gets (see the pitching issue above) and yet it's hard to feel uncharitable toward it. Even thought they get some real-life stuff wrong, and some baseball wrong, it feels like real-life baseball. I'm just a little bit caught in the middle. Life is a maze, and love is a riddle
