  1. Mets get a well earned and rare mid-homestand day off. No travel, just enjoying the beauty of New York after a rain storm. When all that is done, they send José Quintana to the mound to tackle the incoming Houston Astros, a team sitting at .500 just like the Mets are, and just as hot, if not hotter, and deploying their top starter in Ronel Blanco. Slugging outfielder Kyle Tucker is out until at least the end of the month, so he'll miss the series, but the rest of the lineup is pretty hot, coming off a 5-0 homestand, sweeping Colorado (no big whoop) and Baltimore (pretty huge whoop), but it's like that, and that's the way it is. 2. Mets are at .500. (Their season high is two games over.) They've also put some distance between themselves and much of the cluster. They were behind the Cubs, for instance, heading into the series at Wrigley, and now are up on them by 3 1/2 games. St. Louis and San Diego both won also last night, so the Mets sit a game and a half behind both the second and third Wild Card spots.
  3. How about Carlos Mendoza as a clueless Yankee castoff vs. Carlos Mendoza as a cool, firm, steady hand?
  4. I was looking for an Adcock sighting, but I've instead stumbled into a Gamel encounter!
  5. Wait ... the Mets are in third place?!?!
  6. The bridge to Francisco Álvarez has found a new employer in Houston.
  7. I'm thinking that these Yankees lead the league in bling.
  8. Let's see if we get to ring the Adcock Bell.
  9. I don't think I've seen a pitch yet from Yoendrys Gómez that has had a Met fooled. That homer just now from Taylor seemed to be just a matter of time. Say what you will about the Mets' pen, but ... .
  10. This pitch-Ottavino-every-day-until-he-works-his-shit-out strategy is interesting.
  11. I made a few miscalcs above, I think, but this should be (but probably isn't) accurate, as of the rain delay. 12. The league's top starters have really brought out the best from this latter-day version of the Mets. The Yankees couldn't have lined up their rotation any better for this series, but alas.
  13. Those raindrops are the size of tomatoes.
  14. I might have to update this thread again. Please stand by ... .
  15. The two faces of Francisco Lindor. This includes tonight's leadoff double. 16. Michael Mays = good interview. It's impressive that he's been able to do this media blitz while mourning.
  17. YANKEE FANS: "This sucks! They totally waste their opportunities!" METS FANS: "This sucks! They totally waste their opportunities!" YANKEE FANS: "Shut up!" METS FANS: "No, you shut up!"
  18. When did Álvarez acquire the best batting eye on the team?
  19. One million consecutive leadoff doubles.
  20. Three walks in the first inning is not a good personal signature, Sean.
  21. Gleyber Torres getting the day off that probably should have started halfway through last night's game.
