  1. How can he still be this hot?
  2. I realize Luis Castillo didn't thrill them, but understanding Wilson Valdez's dim hint at offensive ability last season as something to bank on rather than the ephemeral gift it was seems like a mistake. I say that knowing he'll get about 11 hits off of us this weekend.
  3. Sean Connery plays Duke Anderson, a master thief just out of jail and unrepentently right back in action, finding himself in a new world of electronic surveillance and the accompanying buzzes and beeps of new electronic technologies, which director Sidney Lumet and composer Qunicy Jones underscore for reasons that I suspect, but aren't exactly clear to me. This was tentatively recommended by Vic Sage in the Lumet thread, but I'm still chewing on it.
  4. I predict he'll get called up before his bat is ready, in order to take advantage of his ballhawking abilitites.

  6. I don't think that would be priority one. I get his thinking, but... proportion is needed.
  7. Omir Santos back in the bigs with the Tiggs (where all our former backup catchers seem to end up). Can't claim I ever thought he'd get back.
  8. We could sure use that defense. Excellent parenting here. A model.
  9. "With nowhere else to go, he appeared at the home of his childhood friend, Robinzon Diaz. Sometime earlier, Diaz's team had given him his unconditional release, requesting that he never return. Can two free agent catchers share an apartment without driving each other crazy?"
  10. Simultaneous resurrections from Brad Holt and Jeurys Familia seem almost too good to believe. Makes me want to see what Jonathan Holdzkom is up to. Easter fever has avoided Eddie Kunz, however, as he's given up three runs in 4.1 innings for San Antonio.
  11. I imagine there was a visit to McSorley's somewhere in that sequence.
  12. He and Alex Cora: destined to eventually become one in my ever-aging mind.
  13. Feel free to research him and post on him. The only real thing a thread-starter has is the responsilbility to research him and know him better than the rest of us.
  14. Damn. An All-Star, a Hall-of-Famer, and Ernie Douglas in between them.

For only a few stretches -- Kingman in 1976, Strawberry in 1990, Piazza in 2000 -- the Mets have had that "put the team on my back" guy. Never did I see anybody fill that role the way Delgado did for approximately half a season in 2008. It was thrilling to watch. Lee Mazzilli, July 1980. Not a half season, but up to that time, I didn't know a Met could have a month like that.

If you can identify the problem, it doesnt have to be psychologically so overbearing. Well, let's identify it. The team was a perfectly cromulent four-for-ten with runners in scoring position. The probolem on offense was giving away outs, at-bats, baserunners, blood, and treasure.
  17. The most gratifying part of the whole subforum is sticking through the bad with him and so being the first in line to share the good.
  18. I know I put up a thread about this film a while back. I loved it. Like The Station Agent, it's about accidental family happening to broken people. Like The Station Agent, he coaxes a star turn from a career character actor. I almost wouldn't want to tell anybody the plot points because it's just a delight to see it unfold in ways that would seem contrived if you saw it coming but is absolutely honest when it happens.
  19. Man, it's the team that isn't hitting meeting the team that isn't pitching. Something's gotta give!
  20. I thought it looked far less stupid than the last trailer, and I'm thinking maybe they got feedback on the tone of that one and it informed how they should go forward.
  21. Add "Attending a private screening of Thor" to euphemisms for sex.
  22. It's one of those cases where I disagreed, was seriously disappointed in the results, but if Terry Collins wanted Niese to go after him as part of the growing process, I can accept that. Giving young pitchers a chance to fail was pretty much a commandment with Billy Martin and Davey Johnson.
  23. That's so typical of Howard Bryant! (Who's Howard Bryant?)
  24. Man, I can hear Jerrry all over that sort of ambiguity. "We've gotta get to that game first. I may need him in the eight inning tonight!"
