  1. Maybe forcing the Redz to use their closer last night helps today. I mean, it would help more if we can somehow stay in this game.
  2. =ashie62 post_id=198516 time=1752958504 user_id=90] Id like to see Vientos become esconced as the everyday 3B vs lefties and eighties As it is there just isn't enough production coming from him, Mauricio Baty etc in the aggregate
  3. I feel like three times this week, before and after the break, I left to walk the dog with the Mets a-leading, I come back, and it is GONE(!!).
  4. Anna better marry Baty fast. His stock is rising.
  5. And Mo Rhee Cee Oh has a chance to deliver Big.
  6. And Strike Three wasn't much better.
  7. I think the Strike One call against Soto may be the worst ball-strike call I have seen this season.
  8. Terrific to see Todd Zeile distinguishing Wright from Jeter, saying that Jeter was happy to stand in front of his locker and face the media, but he never said anything.
  9. I tend to think relief decisions are bound by policies put in place long before gametime. Whether that means the manager is tying is own hands or higher management is, it is hard to say. Probably more the latter. But some days — quite a few of them, in fact — responding explicitly to the game situation with your pitching changes doesn't seem to be a luxury that the manager allows himself. It is frustrating as hell, and does not make for better baseball. I know they have their reasons and are trying to be responsible stewards of arms, but the results do not suggest to me that they are succeeding in that department, so yeah, I would encourage managers to manage to win the day, for our tomorrows run thin.
  10. Maybe they are saving Young to hit for Vientos?
  11. Not sure why Torrens was batting there, but will not complain about the outcome.
  12. Engagement brings the hustle out of Brett Baty.
  13. One more bezrunner and Friedl gets to the plate.
  14. Frayed Knot wrote: Mets are (once again) on the wrong side of the free pass ledger tonight: 7 BBs + 3 HBPs vs one walk So only a 10/1 ratio That really is the name of the game. These Reds look like a sharp, tight, clean, and patient team to me, and a good bet to improve in the second half.
  15. Shut put with the position players pitching ideas. Let Devenski do his thing, whatever that is.
  16. Elly de la was down 0-and-2 and now has walked to load them. Not effective there. Friedl may get another trip to the plate.
  17. Nimmo turning a walk into a run out of the fifth spot is my favorite part of the game.
  18. Also, I'm impressed by these Reds. I get bored by the "need bullpen help" talk though. Everybody wants more bullpen help. But the shortest trip to a deeper bullpen is not pulling your starting pitcher after 69 pitches. I mean, can you really say a team is short on arms when they lose because they don't have a good enough fifth-inning guy?
  19. I am more confused with Manaea's absence than Carrillo's presence.
  20. Carrillo does not appear to have spent his break productively.
  21. As last fall in Milwaukee demonstrated, the roster certainly is not wanting for height. Look at that back row! I think Anna is behind #2 and there are several as tall as or taller than her.
  22. Brett Baty chose the All-Star Break to propose marriage to his girlfriend Anna. You gotta believe she said yes. 23. I guess he was supposed to be a Ferris Buehler type who always lands on his feet or something. But agreed — a big key in retail management in the 90s was to prevent employee theft and make all the employees feel like thieves anyhow, so they would leave before they qualified for any medical benefits. I had a friend who worked in a record store. Any record he wanted, he would drop in the garbage. He would take out the garbage at the end of his shift and walk off with a killing. I think Car Wash was supposed to be a model for the film. The screenwriter supposedly based it on her (I think it was a her) own experiences, but she worked at a Tower, so it kind of makes sense that they miss the indy vibe they are going for.
