  2. Nah. The notion is that number two guys get strikes to swing at. Or get hit by pitches. That too. Anywutz, Broken-bat RBI by Dabid! YAY!
  3. How You Doin'? Currently failing to answer the bell are lefthanded starting pitcher Jaime Garcia, righthanded starting pitcher Joe Kelly, and bearded reliever Joe Motte. Don't I Know You? No ex-Mets adorn the Cardinal roster, or even their 40-man roster. But David Aardsma is throwing well for the Memphis Redbirds, so maybe he'll get a call. Jose Oquendo is in his 15th windmilling season as the Cardinals third base coach. That's got to be an impressive run in a position with a high mortality rate. Mike Jorgensen is one of four Cardinal staffers to hold the coveted position of "special assistant to the GM." Randy Niemann is the pitching coach for the AA Springfield Cardinals.
  4. And yet, despite your analysis, people do walk him. You know, it feels more like Raul Ibanez to me. But if it doesn't work out, they move on quickly and without remorse. Even Ankiel was merely an inexpensive bridge to an internal option. Getting a defensively challenged veteran to take a hack with runners on base every now and then is fine as long as you don't commit two years to Julio Franco. The world needs pinch-hitters, too.
  5. Why would you even throw him balls? Because extra-base-hit percentages have a way of feeding walk rates, and vice versa. With regards to good hitters, one is very often happening because the other is not.
  6. It's up to Terry and what his stomach can handle. Fans have to be realistic too. I really think a young MLB-er needs to be told to consider his position as "hitter" and approach it that way. If you can figure out how to hit major league hitting, you can refine your defensive work later. If you can't, it doesn't matter. We'll figure out a position for you... IF you hit. In the meantime, you're young enough to get by defensively on your youthful spryness and vigor, and what you learned in the minors. So we should measure him that way. If we think he's right now a big league hitter, sure, plug him in at short a few days a week. As that's not particularly established, I think it's getting ahead of things to try him as a full-timer over there.
  7. I had no idea this was a four game series. And I had no idea Milwaukee, apart from being a great song by Ted Leo and Aimee Mann, is also the name of a first-place baseball team. I seem to recall pre-season buzz that they were looking at 2014 as a write-off.
  8. I'm hoping and trying to be believing that he's better than we've seen. He looked troubled in the long shadows yesterday, but not without instincts. Plus, of course, I don't want to fall into the trap that he suxx because he's not Lagares.
  9. I don't get this one. Gomez watches a fly, looking to admire his homerun handiwork, and ends up embarrassing himself and having to break out of his reverie and turn on the burners. His speed gets him to third, but he might have gotten an inside-the-parker. So the universe has seemingly paid him back, penalizing him for his vanity. Why would the other team want to get in his face over that? Be thankful and encourage him in his foolishness.
  10. Is something going on that will make the TV booth unappealing, or is it just the prospect of the misbegotten unis?
  11. Move over San Diego! The Mets are stealing your idea!
  12. Las Vegas 11, El Paso 4 deGrom: 5 IP, 3 ER, 6 H, 2 BB, 6 SO Carlyle: 2 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 0 BB, 1 SO Abreu: 1-4, BB, HR, 3 RBI, RS Muno: 4-4, HR, RS, 4 RBI Dykstra: 1-4, BB, HR, 2 RS, 2 RBI Flores: 1-2, 3 BB, 3 RS =#FF8000](shortstop) Binghamton, St. Lucie, and Savannah, as well as their respective leagues, all got Easter Sunday off! This means, combined with the Mets win over the Braves.... ORGANIZATIONAL SWEEP! I'm naming Las Vegas secondbaseman =#FF0000]Daniel Muno Player of the Day. Daisuke fans may argue otherwise.
  13. And indeed Ivan Nova climbs aboard the Tommy John train. Did the Braves leave any leftover free agent starters out there in the marketplace? Jeff Karstens? Jason Marquis? It's going to be Randy Wolf, isn't it?
  14. Probably not a good day to be named "Brown."
  15. I read a miserable 45 year-old on my Facebook feed declare in the ninth: "Valverde IS Benitez. Granderson IS Bay." And this was in my Easter thread. We would be the luckiest team in the world if Valverde is Benitez.
  16. No piefaces for sac flies, apparently.
  17. Holy crap, Curtis. Hurt them for this.
  18. Nieuie knows extra-inning drama.
  19. Got speedburny Gattis that time.
  20. HEY! Burkhardt's still working for us. BIG hand for Matsuzaka in my house.
  21. I hereby DEMAND Jeter play short for the Braves the rest of the year.
  22. Mix of sun and shadows is krazy out there.
  23. EY back on the left side of the plate. That's his walkoff side.
  24. Spoke too fast.
